Hi I'm Sherri Patterson McRae
I grew up in Northeast Texas. Now living in the great state of Georgia. I started signing 18 years ago. ......and I'm a Mormon.
I am the mother of five........three boys, and two girls. I have four hearing children and one deaf son! I have an amazing husband who endlessly tries to please me!! I am the grandmother of three with two more on the way! I play ALTA tennis with a wonderful group of women. Tennis is one of my most favorite things to do. However, a family game of badminton ranks pretty close to a competitive game of tennis with the girls. I also enjoy baking and trying new recipes. I like to please my family with new desserts. I love hosting parties and making sure everyone has a good time. I enjoy teaching sign language classes in my home for those who want to learn to communicate with deaf/hard of hearing.
Why I am a Mormon
I am a Mormon in part because I was born into this church. How blessed I feel to have been baptized when I was 8 years old. But the truth is, we are all converts to His gospel and must gain our own testimony of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. When I'm reading the scriptures or listening to a talk in church, the warm feeling inside lets me know I'm following Him. I know Heavenly Father loves us as much now as He loved those in times of old. Having a living prophet on the earth today is a very important aspect of this church. I know President Monson tells us the things that Heavenly Father wants us to know and do. It just makes so much sense to me! Also, the gift of the Holy Ghost, that we receive at baptism is the greatest gift I could ever have. The Holy Ghost is a constant companion and guide to me as long as I am worthy. This gift has blessed me greatly in my life to warn, encourage, lift and direct my actions. I know this is His church and I know it because I feel it deep inside. It is affirmed each time I hug my children, say a prayer or hear one of His servants teach a correct principle. I love my family and know that we can be together in the eternities if we are obedient in this life. As much as I love my own family, Heavenly Father loves us even more. This knowledge blesses my life and gives the strength I need to happy.
How I live my faith
I try to live my faith by teaching gospel principles to my family. I want my children to learn that obeying the commandments of our Heavenly Father is not restrictive but brings true happiness and peace. Family prayer and spending time together is a priority for us. As we go through the trials and struggles of this life, it is comforting to know that we are never alone and can find answers to our questions by studying the scriptures. I serve in my congregation by ensuring that the Deaf members always have an interpreter when they need it. It is very comforting to know that the Lord provides a way for all of His children to learn His gospel. It is my pleasure to serve in this way and gives others the opportunity to serve our Deaf brothers and sisters.
