Hi I'm Shayna

I grew up in North Carolina. I'm an artist, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have always loved and connected with art and music. I love to create and express what I feel through images. I think creativity is an inherently divine trait from our Heavenly Father that He gave us to better appreciate the world around us! I love my home of North Carolina, and how green and alive it is. I look around and know that God lives and that He must love me to allow me to live in such a beautiful world. I went to a visual and performing arts high school, and it allowed me to grow my abilities in visual art, and appreciate how amazing music is. I have never been too attracted to writing or verbal expression because I don't feel like I am very good at it, but that makes it so much more exciting to find a song with poetic words that perfectly connect with how I am feeling. I am grateful for how in tune with the spirit I can feel when I create, or when I am in the moment, appreciating someone else's creation.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in this church, with a family that taught me to love Jesus Christ and live how He would. My parents are converts, and both became active a few years after they were married. They paved the way for our family, knowing that a strong, happy home life was built on this gospel of faith and repentance. As I have grown up and had new experiences, I realized the importance of coming to know this for myself. Things were hard, temptation came, and I knew that I could not answer the "why" questions about how I lived my life if I never had questioned and sought answers myself. My personal conversion and study began with the reading of the Book of Mormon on my own for the first time when I was 17. After a few months of steady reading, I finished the book and did as Moroni said and prayed and asked God if it was truth. I immediately felt a rush of peace and love like I had never felt. Even though I was alone when I prayed, I felt like I had just received the best hug. I knew that this was good and of God. Since then, I have continued to read the Book of Mormon along with other scriptures daily, and have had a great peace and power flow into my life. I know that this gospel is where I have found my true joy. I know that Jesus Christ lives and loves me!

How I live my faith

I am a counselor to the president of the church's women's organization, and I meet together with the president and her other counselor regularly to discuss the needs of the women in our area, and how we can best look out for them. I help to plan activities and service events so that women have a safe place to come to feel supported in their journey to become more like Christ. I visit with the sisters around me, and help get people to church that can't get there by themselves. I am currently preparing to be a full-time missionary, and help others come to Christ by teaching them about Him and inviting them to be baptized.
