Hi I'm Larrisa

I was born and raised in Alaska. I love music. I study neuroscience at BYU. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the oldest sister of three young boys who are as crazy as they are adorable. I've been studying to gain a BS in neuroscience for the past three years. I love to learn about the brain, and the many ways it influences how we think and behave. I also love all things music. I love to sing and play the guitar, but I also love to find new genres of music that interest me and make me feel deeply. I grew up in Alaska, so I love to spend time outdoors hiking, camping. I especially love to be near the water whether that is boating, swimming, etc. My favorite thing to do by far is meet people, to connect with them, and to bring them joy, even if it isn't always easy.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I was born to a mother who was raised in this church. I was born to a mother who left the church as a teenager. I was born to a mother who, once I was born, decided her life was missing something that she used to have. She began to come to church again. At first she left my father at home, but because he was supportive of her, he started to attend with her. After a few months, the missionaries asked him if he wanted to be taught, and my mom was so nervous. She knew what she wanted and what was right, but she worried my dad did not. He did. He was baptized about a year later, and we were sealed for time and all eternity. As time passed, my mom had a lot of health problems, and getting to church seemed impossible sometimes. Luckily, my parents had raised me to love going to church. I begged them to take me back, and we have attended regularly ever since. I'm a Mormon because every time I went to church as a teen, I felt peace and comfort that I could never find anywhere else. Because I've experienced miracles and seen God's love for me in ways the world cannot explain. Because with this gospel, I know that I can live with my family forever. Because I know that no matter what I've done or do, Jesus Christ, my perfect brother, is standing with his arms open, waiting for me to embrace Him and tell me that I'm never to far, and I'm never alone. Because every time I truly connect with another person, I catch a glimpse of eternity and I can feel my true purpose. I'm a Mormon because no matter the distractions that come, I choose to love Christ because there is not a single day He does not choose to love me, and I want to do whatever I can to live with Him and our eternal family again.

How I live my faith

I love to serve others through simple acts. I feel that sometimes merely helping someone laugh on a bad day can be incredibly meaningful. I also serve through music. I've directed choirs in the past, and it brings me so much happiness to know the music we create can touch people's hearts. I've been to many service activities ranging from singing to the elderly to painting homes to raking yards. Sometimes when I don't have a lot of time, I make sure to smile at strangers as I pass them. No act of service goes unnoticed whether you see the positive results or not. I attend church regularly, and try my best to be supportive and teach those around me to live meaningful and happy lives through words or by example.
