Hi I'm Alma

Hi! My name is Alma. I grew up in Arizona. I love eating bizarre food and meeting new people. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi, my name is Alma. Former college kid, current missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I love every minute of it! The message of the Christ's church has changed my life. I love the life I've been given- though not perfect, it's perfect for me, in Christ Jesus. My family is adorable. I have eight younger siblings and they're my best friends. We're all based in the beautiful Sonoran Dessert and love the 'smell of rain' (ask a local southern Arizonan for details). I'm a proud Mexican-Nicaraguan-American. My passions are community outreach and art. If you want to know more about me or missionaries, send me an email!

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because this gospel allows me to feel alive. Life is full of color and energy, when I live like 'Mormons' do. Laughter is richer, sorrow is sweeter, and joy lasts longer. I made the decision to join the Mormon church when I was 12 years old, with my mother. I remember the feeling I had when I toured a Mormon chapel. As I entered that chapel, down the street from my house (the old Fort Lowell building), I knew it was a place of Jesus Christ. The air was still yet vibrant, peace and light filled my little heart. The memory of that feeling has never left me. I'm was an ordinary 12 year old. I had ordinary abilities and disabilities. I had problems and disappointments, like everyone else. There was nothing special about me, which qualified me to receive that feeling, in that chapel, that day. Because of this knowledge, I know that the power of Jesus Christ was and IS the only power which could have carried that feeling into my heart. I'm a Mormon; but more importantly, I believe in Christ.

How I live my faith

I live my faith the way everyone on this Earth does; by looking deeply within their hearts, and aligning themselves with those deep heart-felt desires. The desires of my heart are for life-long peace. For me, living in peace is by striving to live like Jesus Christ did, during His Earthly ministry. During His Earthly ministry, Jesus Christ taught that peace is obtained through living His gospel. The gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of promises between God and man. The promises, or covenants, provide a path for all participants grow spiritually, emotionally, and mentally and become unified with others. In short, we obtain peace in this life. I align my life with Jesus every day with through prayer (both in my heart and aloud), holy scripture (Book of Mormon, Bible, modern day prophet's messages, etc.) and attending church. All three of these modes of worship teach me how to identify Jesus Christ, how He lived, and the love He has for me. When I learn more and feel Christ's love, I'm fueled to continue living my faith- prayer, scripture study, and church attendance.
