Hi I'm Melinda Garrard

I'm a runner, a piano player, a college student, and a missionary in the Philippines Urdaneta Mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a missionary for the LDS church in the beautiful Philippines, Urdaneta mission. Before my mission, I attended a year of college at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and I plan to continue my education there after my mission. I am studying psychology and plan on becoming a counselor for adolescents and young adults after graduate school. I love to be outdoors, particularly when I'm running, hiking, or camping with my family. Doing these things helps me appreciate the beauty of nature and lets me get away from regular life stressors. I also love music and play the piano regularly. I enjoy arrangements from most time periods and I love to learn new pieces and play music with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family with parents who were both active members of the church and lived God's commandments very faithfully. I have always loved the things that I was taught but I was not truly converted until I was around 16 years old. I went through a time where I was unhappy with my life. During this time, I was able to get a blessing from a leader in my church that allowed me to feel how much God cared for me. I began to follow God's commandments and read His teachings in the scriptures because I really wanted to, not just because it was expected of me. Since that time, I have had many times where I have felt close to God and many times when I have felt distant from Him, but when I pray and seek for answers, I always find that He cares for me and blesses me in more ways than I had realized. I am a Mormon because I know that this church is led by Christ and leads me closer to Him than any other lifestyle could.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving as a full-time missionary for the Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I live my faith in this way by dedicating 18 months of my life to teaching others about Jesus Christ and His love for us. I try and follow His example the best that I can and be obedient to His commandments each day. I have been able to participate in church in many ways in the past including being a pianist, organist, and monthly teacher for the women in my church. I also have gotten the opportunity to visit the women in my ward and get to know them better while providing meals and service to their families when they are in need. The Mormon church is very focused around service to others and I have loved to participate in many activities with people of other faiths to provide humanitarian efforts to those in my local area as well as other countries.
