Hi I'm Susan

I grew up on a ranch in a small town in Idaho. I love cooking, reading, music and travelling. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a retired high school teacher. I taught many different classes during the course of 34 years in education. My passion as a teacher was helping students find the leadership skills within themselves. I was active as a FACS teacher and FCCLA adviser. I served on local, state and national committees to help students succeed. During that time I was able to travel with my students to many different cities for national conventions. I also value education and went on to get my Master's degree in School Counseling. Now I enjoy taking care of my grandchildren and redoing my house.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised with a mother who took me to the Mormon church sometimes, but because my father was not a member, we also went to many other churches in my father's quest to find the right church. Even though we were part of a small branch in Idaho, I always knew that I felt something different when I went to the Mormon church services. When I was 12, I was asked to be the pianist for Sunday School and Sacrament Meeting on a rotating basis with another girl my age. This gave me a reason to go each week. I also played for the youth group during the week. When it came time to pick a college, I chose Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. It was over 550 miles from home but I wanted to learn more about the church. My testimony grew because it was the first time I had actually read the Book of Mormon. As I continued my studies at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, I continued to strengthen my testimony. One night as I was thinking about going on a mission, the feeling came so strong to me that the church was true, that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that Joseph Fielding Smith was the prophet during that time. I felt the spirit so strongly that night that I could not deny that the Holy Ghost was testifying to me that everything I had been studying was true.

How I live my faith

I have had the opportunity to serve in many different callings, but the one I am always asked to come back to is pianist in the youth organization. For over 20 years I have served as pianist in many different organizations at church. I also have a great love for Scouting since I only had boys. I was actively involved for over 20 years as the Den Leader, Committee Chair, and Scouting Advancement Chair.
