Hi I'm Russ Amelang

I was raised in Seattle, I am studying Philosophy and Psychology, I'm an athlete, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am about to serve a mission in Guatemala City, after studying for 3 semesters at college. The second of four, I enjoy playing sports like Basketball, Soccer, and Frisbee. I love cooking and listening to music as well as working on my car and in the yard! I love my family and very much enjoy the time I get to spend with them every day.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have come to recognize that this is the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, and I look to serve in this church because I know that all that has been given to me is not mine, but the Lord's. The happiness that comes from ministering and showing the pure love of Christ is unparalleled to any other feeling I've felt. I spent my own time away from this church and disconnected from its teachings. Within that period of time I lost what joy felt like, what blessings this gospel brings. Upon refocusing and returning to the principles I knew were true I began to be overwhelmed with love in honesty, respect, genuine care and acceptance. This gospel and those who follow it are in urgent pursuit of a Christ-like life, and it distinguishes them from those around them. There is light and truth, comfort and peace here, and I would never give it up for riches or fame.

How I live my faith

I live as a voice for those who want to serve. I currently teach the 11 year old youth, and occasionally will give lessons in Sunday School to the adults. I am a member missionary and look for ways to serve in my community through organized assistance programs or personal interaction with the less fortunate. I also do my best to empower the youth in the ward to be powerful, strong ministers to our community in order to uplift all, not just those of our faith.
