Hi I'm Derrick

I am a senior in high school, I participate in the sport of tricking, I am a 2nd degree black belt in Takewondo, I am a Mormon.

About Me

I've played baseball for my whole life pretty much, and played some other sports on the side like soccer and football. The sport that caught my attention was Taekwondo, and I did it for four years and taught it for one and a half years. I love to teach, I've never thought about how fun it is until I got hired to teach. I teach the more extreme side of Taekwondo called XMA, so all the high level kicks and flips. I also trick, which is all of the sports like breakdancing, gymnastics, martial arts, etc. combined together. I would say I am at a intermediate level, but my goal is to reach it at a professional level. I also do some card magic, and I love to hangout with my friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I have loved, with all of my heart, this church because of the happiness it has given me and the help that it gives me when I am going through trials. My middle school and freshman year was a wreck for me at the time because I didn't really have a care in what I do. Seminary was the thing that turned my life around and has helped me to think more optimistically. I also went through an injury with my arm that was supposed to last for 2 weeks, but I ended up sitting out of everything for 6 months. The light and love of Christ made me stronger than ever as I could throw a baseball farther then ever and don't experience much pain in tricking and martial arts. I do testify that the Lord does love us all and cares for all of us and what we are going through. I know that this is the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and the organization of the church is the same as it was during the time Christ was on the Earth. The doctrine and principles that he teaches us will never change and as we repent and do what our Heavenly Father asks of us, we will be blessed by him as we keep living worthily. I know that when we look and act in the light of Christ, the darkness will never overpower us, and we gain a power to resist temptation. The light means so much to me and I want everyone to feel what I feel as I teach them when I go on my mission.

How I live my faith

I participate in as much as the church activities as possible, which is normally held on Tuesdays for me. It is surrounded by good friends and I have loved it for a pretty long time. I do teach families in home teaching with my dad. In the past, when I was 14 through 15, I have helped coordinate many activities for my age group and a huge activity when everyone from 12-17 gets together for an event of fun.
