Hi I'm Richard

grew up in CA, but at 20 read the Book of Mormon, then prayed to know if it was from God, & received a revelation that it is !

About Me

I am a Father of 3 daughters and 2 sons, a Doctor of Chiropractic, an avid gardener, cyclist and golfer, a serious student of the Bible and Book of Mormon, (a huge fan of JOHN 10:16 / Christ in America / 3 Nephi 15:14-24 ), a pianist, and a AKC Labrador breeder (Shelby just delivered 9 white and light brown puppies 9 days ago)....was on a mission 14 months after being baptized (79-81; Georgia)......at 14 I figured out all on my own that the church I was born into, and the branched off protestant churches that broke away from it, were man made churches (hence, giving rise to my 6 year bout with atheism)---- I knew nothing of Mormonism (much less anything about the 1820 appearance of the Father & the Son to the 14 yr old prophet Joseph Smith)...so when I read the Book of Mormon for the first time at age 20, I was skeptical.....but still gave it a chance to prove itself to me......I sincerely prayed that God would reveal himself to me, and also to reveal whether this book was from Him or whether it was a fraud of Joseph Smith's......and God did answer both requests ! because the power of the Holy Ghost came upon me for about 30 seconds, and it was delicious ! and I knew that God lived and that the Book of Mormon was true.....Luke 24:32 and Moroni 10:4 best describe what happened to me that day in August 1978.....and all of this has sustained my faith through several severe trials and tribulations....

Why I am a Mormon

3 reasons I am a Latter Day saint (or "Mormon"---but there really is no such thing as the : "Mormon Church" ; Mormon was the prophet in 400 AD that compiled the Book of Mormon....an american version of Moses, if you will...while we revere Mormon as a prophet, we dont "believe in" any body except Jesus Christ and our Father in Heaven) : (1) Christ in America --- not only does John 10:16 and 3 Nephi 15:14-24 bear witness to this reality, but the testimony of the Aztecs (as recorded by Cortez and Friar Sahagun in the 16th century) and other central american artifacts and testimonies also give additional witness to this fact ; (2) the FIRST VISION in 1820 --- it is true ! I know this from personal revelation and logic--- for in 1972, at age 14, I also came to know with 100% certainty that the churches of my day were man made churches ; (3) Moroni 8 :10-12 in the Book of Mormon (and 1 Peter 3:21) teach the correct doctrine on infant baptism ---- that it is not of God, that little children are sinless and holy (Mosiah 15:25 ), and dont need baptism, and Peter actually goes on to tell us that the age of 8 is when kids BEGIN to become eligible for baptism, which comports with Matthew 18: 3,4, 10.....WHY IS #3 IMPORTANT ? because at 14 I learned that I had an older brother that was not sprinkled/baptized before he died as a newborn baby, and supposedly was going to purgatory ! (for failing to do something he had no knowledge of and no ability to comply with---get baptized; he died before my parents could get him baptized).....in my heart, I knew that God was more loving and fair and just than this ! so this gave me to know that God could not be the author of that doctrine, and hence, could not be the founder of the Catholic church, and by extension, could not be the founder of the break away protestant churches either........

How I live my faith

I regularly visit the sick and dying in elderly convalescent ("rest") homes, bringing roses (purple, red, yellow) to the elderly ladies (and even some men)......to try to befriend them and lessen their loneliness and isolation.....I tell people that Jesus Christ came to ancient southern Mexico/northern Guatemala in 34 AD in fulfillment of "other sheep I have, which are not of this fold --- them also I must bring (teach) and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd..." (John 10:16).....I minister/help others in my ward family......I have taught many sunday school classes (gospel doctrine) and priesthood classes

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Richard
because of the fall, all of us divine sons and divine daughters of our Heavenly Father have sinned to one degree or another, and even those fully aware of the commandments of God and with a desire to obey them fully----still make mistakes and commit sin......and this atonement of Jesus Christ is so fully capable of gracefully protecting us from the just eternal consequences of those sins (provided that we have a repentant heart) ----for in Doctrine and Covenants 46:9 we read : " the benefit of all those who keep my commandments AND HIM THAT SEEKETH SO TO DO " ......so where the adversary always seeks to "pile on" (Revelation 12:10) our accusing conscience and exploit it to bring us down into unhealthy levels of remorse, God's work and Glory " is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man."(MOSES 1:39)....in short, we need to be charitable not only to others, BUT ALSO OURSELVES.......because eventually, through our enduring to the end with a contrite, repentant heart, we SHALL fulfill our Divine Birthright, being given power "to become the sons/daughters of God" (John 1:12) and inherit ALL THAT THE FATHER HATH (see 1 Corinthians 3:21-22), becoming " heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ" (Romans 8:17)...Jesus being " Highly Exalted " (Philippians 2:9)....we ALSO shall fulfill the fullness of OUR own creation (because of Christ's atonement and our obedience to his commands), as memorialized in Psalms 82:6 and John 10:33-35 and Revelation 3:21....
