Hi I'm Olivia

I'm a student at the University of North Texas. I'm studying music education, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Logan, Utah, but my parents moved our family to Bloomington, Illinois shortly after. We moved a couple more times while I was growing up, and I lived in Vancouver, Washington and Idaho Falls, Idaho. In elementary school I loved learning about math and science, but I also loved learning about music. I pursued these things into high school, and ultimately I followed music off to college. I began playing piano when I was five, but I didn't stick with it very well. I started playing tuba as a sixth grader, and through high school I performed a lot. Tuba is my main instrument in college, but I love all kinds of music and instruments. I love learning about music from different styles and cultures. As a student at the University of North Texas, I am studying Elementary Music Education. I plan to become a music educator, and I love working with kids. I have a ton of fun playing, singing, dancing, and working with them. I have six younger siblings, and they are so much fun to be around. I don't see my family often because I now live in Texas and they live in Idaho, but my family is so important to me.

Why I am a Mormon

By devoting my time and talents to the work of the Lord, I have seen great happiness come into my life. I was born into the church, so I developed my testimony progressively as I grew up and questioned my parents' beliefs. I know that this church is God's true church on the earth. I know that I have a loving Heavenly Father and we lived with Him before coming to earth because I have felt His love. I know that we can live again because Christ lived again. I know that through Christ's sacrifice, we can repent of our mistakes and become like our Father in Heaven because I have seen myself change and become more like Him. I know that Joseph Smith saw the Father and Son and was directed to restore God's church in these days because I have felt the spirit of the saints and have read their stories and know that they are true. I know that we can receive answers and revelation to guide us today because I have received answers. I know that as I keep the commandments of God, I am happier, I have purpose in my life, I do more good for the people around me, and I feel God's love. I have felt the Holy Spirit and the comfort and direction He has given me are invaluable. Because of this, I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, my religion is in every part of my life. I go to church each Sunday to partake of the bread and water and to study the gospel. The Sabbath is a sacred day to me to draw nearer to my family and to God. My young single adult congregation also meets throughout the week to do additional study of the gospel and to enjoy each others company. I am with my church family many times each week. Outside of church, I study my scriptures daily, including the Bible and the Book of Mormon, and speak to my God in sincere prayer. This is very important to me because through it I draw nearer to God. My daily study of the gospel allows the Spirit of the Lord into my life. I often volunteer to use my musical talents in church, and I am currently serving as a coordinator to organize the sisters' visiting routes so that we can stay strong and unified as a church. I participate in classes at my church institute during the school week, and this helps me to stay on the path that God has set. As a member of the church I keep high standards and avoid drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, as well as maintaining chastity. In the summer of 2017, I served as a member of the brass band in Nauvoo. We had the opportunity to dress like and represent the Mormon pioneers who came through the area. After this, I decided to serve as a proselyting missionary for the church. I depart this year to the Florianopolis, Brazil area and am excited to devote my life to God and His Church.
