Hi I'm Ryan

I was born and grew up in Cambridge, England in an atheistic household with my twin sister.

About Me

Being born in in such a beautiful and notable city, I have been able to pursue many of my interests. I love to swim (preferably in open water) and to listen to music, with a couple of my favourite singers being 'Lana Del Rey' and 'Sufjan Stevens', especially while my GCSE exams are looming. I plan on developing my academic skillset by continuing on to a 6th Form college and then University. I have a passion for languages and would love to continue learning German, while also having the opportunity to visit more German-speaking countries in the future.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up in an atheistic household allowed me to spend a couple of years exploring different theologies (and lack thereof, (for which I am ever grateful for)), until I decided to research the LDS Church. After listening to a few talks from the then Prophet: Thomas S Monson, I knew there was something more to the Church. This feeling was strengthened after attending a meeting for the first time and by taking lessons from the missionaries. I would really like to make known the power of the Church's digital resources. Without content found in the Gospel Library app along with the Church's social media profiles I don't believe I would have found the courage and the actual faith-affirming information to attend and consequently join.

How I live my faith

Although only recently becoming a member, I have already gained the understanding that membership within the Church does not restrict you to certain observances on Sunday, but rather it calls for a change of heart and purpose -- giving one the opportunities to obtain Christ-like attributes and aim to become more selfless. Being in the Teachers Quorum (a group of young men from a certain age bracket) and commencing my involvement within the 'Duty To God' program, I have been able to sit down and think about all the ways I can help those around me which is the pinnacle of Church life.

How do I become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church)?

In answering this question I will share my own experience. Before anything it is essential that in deep though and prayer you come to the conclusion that the church and its teaching are true. This can been confirmed by the calming feeling of the Holy Spirit. If you haven't attend a meeting yet, make sure you plan on going. If travel is an issue contact your local church's missionaries (you can find their numbers on the meetinghouse finder tool). Once you have experienced Sunday church life and wish to proceed you will usually be referred to the residing missionaries. If you are comfortable, they are willing to teach you more about the religion and its practices along with the process and preparation of Baptism -- this is necessary in order to join the church. This can take place in a public area or at home. When you are fully prepared to become a Latter-Day Saint you will enter the waters of Baptism and then be confirmed by receiving the Holy Spirit.
