Hi I'm Nathan

I grew up in South Jordan UT, convert, outdoorsman, leader and friend and I'm a Mormon

About Me

Hi, my name is Nathan Martinson but most of my friends know me as Marty. I live in Utah and enjoy outdoor recreation, especially backpacking. I have a family of 5 and my younger sisters and I are all adopted, my sisters are from China, while I am from Salt Lake City. I always am looking for adventure and am excited to be serving a mission to Argentina in the summer of 2018. I also enjoy snowboarding in the winter and spending time with my friends as we adventure through Utah's playground.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the LDS Church but by the time I turned 18, my faith in what I was doing each week was dwindling. I did not understand why I was going through the motions of reading scriptures, praying or attending church each week. There is an LDS message that came out recently titled "The Music of the Gospel." This video explains the spiritual eclipse that I was going through at the time. After becoming in-active for two years, I filled my life with things of the world to try and fill the gap that I knew was missing in my life, which I now understand to be the Holy Spirit. It wasn't until an old friend invited me to church that I was able to feel and recognize the Spirit of the Lord. Since that day, I have been able to watch the Lords hand in my life day by day as well as looking back to the years that I was not active, how he still loved me. Being able to access the atonement every day in my life is also a great blessing, knowing that even when I make a mistake, the Lord is by my side cheering me on to keep moving forward. I love serving others and being able to watch the Lords hand in every aspect of each day in my life and others. I am especially excited to serve the Lord and sharing my testimony of its truth to others in Argentina. D&C 4:3 "Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work." I wouldn't be able to make it day to day without the loving guidance of our Heavenly Father, he brings the peace and joy into my life that I was missing and need to keep moving forward.

How I live my faith

I teach Gospel Principles in my singles ward, and I have enjoyed this calling since my return to the church. I love being guided by the Spirit and knowing that the callings that I receive are to help me grow and learn spiritually. My lessons are taught 1-2 times a month and include an amazing group of youth who love the gospel and learning more about it. There is never a lesson that goes by without the Lord showing me how much he loves his children.
