Hi I'm Don

In High School as a Christian I was introduced to the LDS faith. Now retired, and a Mormon, Christ is still the center of my life.

About Me

I'm retired and am looking forward to spending more time working with and playing alongside my Five sons and 19 grand-kids. Two of those son's are in Utah and 3 are in New Mexico. So I'll be spending time both places. And being born in Canada, and with a Dad from Scotland and growing up in California, I hope to do some traveling as well. Though my vocation was in Electronics my love is in building, remodeling and gardening. I love to make things better, more useful and efficient. And I love watching things grow, eating fresh fruit and veggies and sharing the surplus with others.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents divorced when I was about 10. Mom married an alcoholic and eventually became one herself, and so did my best friend in High School. My only Stepbrother died of a drug over dose. I was definitely shown what choices not to make if I wanted more happiness in life. I had been very active protestant churches and found them full of wonderful loving pastors and members, these are good people. The problem was they didn't openly teach or practice their own churches doctrines. The Mormon church both taught and practiced what they preached. I learned about the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, eternal families, God still talking to Living Prophets and so much more. I was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint in College at the age of 20. I still love my former Pastors and youth pastors and what they taught me about Christ. Now I know even more about my Savior and His church.

How I live my faith

I have had many callings over my 45 years in the Mormon Church including a 2 yr full time mission when 23. I have served in church sponsored Troops & Dens of Boy Scouts of America, Sunday school classes, as a Bishops counselor, community Emergency Preparedness and Garden specialist. Some of these don't sound like church callings but they are. They are all ways to serve others, as Jesus taught. I try to study my scriptures and pray everyday for others. These things help me stay close to our Savior and help me to overcome the enticings of the world that the scriptures warn us about. As I serve others I learn to love them more and my joy is fuller.
