Hi I'm Kyrah Jones

I grew up in a small town in Wyoming, USA. I'm attending college to become a high school English teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on the outskirts of a small family ranch basically in the middle of nowhere. I raised many types of animals while there, my favorites being pigs and sheep. I am the third of five children. I have two older brothers and two younger sisters. My oldest brother is married and has two beautiful baby boys who I am a very proud aunt of! I am currently attending college to become a high school English teacher because I love to help people, I love to teach, and I love to share my passions of reading and writing! I also love to go hiking, fishing, and mountain biking during the summer.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in an Mormon home. Both my parents grew up in the church, and that is how I was raised as well. I went to church every Sunday with my family and went to all other church related activities, but it took me until I was in high school to decide for myself if this church is true. Once I asked my Heavenly Father and received that witness for myself, I started find myself more eager to go to church and church activities and I found myself doing the "little things" more regularly and more willingly. When I graduated from high school and moved away from home to attend college, I realized that I didn't have anyone there to remind me to do the "little things" and I didn't have anyone expecting me to go to church or any other activities. I knew no one at my college or in the college town. It was then that I realized everything is completely up to me. If I stopped going to church, no one would really know. However, because of the testimony I gained, I knew that I need the Gospel, not because I am perfect, but because I am imperfect. I know with my whole heart that this church is true and I know that by attending our church meetings and living the Gospel, we can receive guidance and strength to go through our daily lives. I know that our Savior, Jesus Christ, died for us so that we could have the Atonement so we can repent of our sins as well as receive strength to endure the trials we face. I know that our Heavenly Father loves each and everyone and wants us to return to live with Him. Because of this, He has given us prophets today who receive revelation to guide us today. The prophet Joseph Smith restored the Gospel onto the earth through the power of the Priesthood. Joseph Smith was also able to translate the Book of Mormon which is another testament of Jesus Christ which can guide and direct us in our lives today. I know these things to be true and I know you can too! "Ask and ye shall receive" (3 Nephi 27:29) :)

How I live my faith

The college town I live in does not have a high number of active young single adults so instead of having our own young single adult ward (also known as a YSA ward) we are combined with one of the two family wards here. Although this does not provide me with many official callings, I am able to participate my ward by attending my church meetings and participating there, as well as attending our Family Home Evening activities on Monday evenings and our young single adult Institute class on Tuesday evenings. I am even sometimes asked to teach a lesson in church, at Family Home Evening, or at Institute. I am a visiting teacher for a couple older women in my town, and I have taken it upon myself to reach out to many of the young single adults who attend college with me to befriend them and invite them to come to our activities whether they are are active members, inactive members, or not members at all.
