Hi I'm Shayna

I'm from Missouri. I have just been called to serve in the Brazil Santos Mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love music, writing, reading, cooking, exercising, adventuring outdoors, having fun with family, and being happy. I am currently attending college at BYU-Idaho and I am pursuing a degree in Music with an emphasis in Composition. I was born in Arizona, but moved to Missouri when I was about 8 years old. I come from a family of seven: my parents, my four brothers, and me. Every year, we try to go on a vacation as a family, though our family is expanding as my siblings are getting married and raising families of their own. Some of the states we have visited are: Florida, Arizona, Utah, Wisconsin (one of my favorites!), Illinois, Virginia (another one of my favorites!), Tennessee (and another...), and a few others. I have just received my mission call and will be serving in Brazil here in a couple of months!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in this Church and so it would seem that it would be a given for me to be a member; however, I know that this is the true Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I have received a witness of it through the power of the Holy Ghost. For the longest time, I relied on my parents for direction about everything and often times didn't understand why I had to attend church. Yet, as I have gotten older and have been able to practice agency with my own decisions, I have gained a strong testimony of this Church. I know that Heavenly Father called Joseph Smith to restore His church in these latter-days. I know that through the power of God, Joseph Smith was able to translate the Book of Mormon - the cornerstone of this Church. I love the Book of Mormon. I love reading it and each time I open it, I feel God's love envelop me like a big, warm hug. The Book of Mormon has been the greatest source of peace for me through this journey; furthermore, answers to my questions have been revealed while I have read this book. Through this Gospel, I have come to realize who I am and whose I am. It is everything to me: my identity, my home, my past, my present, my future, my life. I love my Savior and I am forever grateful to say that I belong to His church.

How I live my faith

I am currently in a YSA ward and have 2 callings: Relief Society Pianist and Ward Choir Director. Music is a big part of my life and I love that I am able to use it in my church responsibilities. Often, I will participate in service projects run by the ward or Stake including: cleaning buildings, singing at nursing homes, cleaning up walking trails, and participating in family history/temple work. I know that I have mentioned this many times already, but I will also soon be serving a mission for the Church and I will be able to serve the people surrounding me as well as share my testimony. I try my best to live my faith every day so that if Heavenly Father or Jesus Christ were to walk up to me, they would see me living Their Gospel.
