Hi I'm Jake

I'm an RA, EFY Counselor, and Coke Scholar, travelling and adventuring around the world. I research Neuropsychology. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the fifth of seven children, and have lived all around the US. Born in Tennessee, and moving around to California, Utah, Washington DC, and other places, I have loved travelling from coast to coast and creating memories all along the way. I have a passion for being active and adventurous. I love Soccer, Cross Country, Track, and Swim Team, competing on varsity teams for each sport throughout High School. At any chance I get, I'll run for the mountains to go camping, hiking, mountain-biking, or any kind of High-Adventure activity I can find. I love to travel, and became fluent in Spanish after years of visiting Hispanic countries and taking courses in school. I am currently an Undergrad Double-Major in Neuroscience and Psychology and love my research on Clinical Psychiatric neurogenesis. While I admit I might be one of the biggest nerds on campus, my outgoing and adventurous personality hopefully makes up for it. I love my life in college as an RA, both Research Assistant and Resident Assistant. I live on campus with new freshmen, and while some people may think that sounds like torture, I love the opportunities I've had to teach, learn, and grow through helping my kids at college, as well as my kids from EFY, as I work as a counselor during the summers.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon not because my family is part of the church or because it's easy. I am a Mormon because I love the way I feel when I learn, teach, and hear the word of the Gospel. It is more to me than a religion, it is more than a set of nice guidelines. My faith is my way of life, and my way of thinking. The Mormon church encourages me to succeed in everything that I do, and to seek out truth from all sources. We are a church and a gospel of truth, and that testifies of the veracity of my faith. I am a Mormon because it gives me so much joy to live, laugh, and love with those that I care about, knowing that my family and friends can be together for eternity.

How I live my faith

Faith is not a Sunday-trait, and because of that, I can take my belief with me everywhere I go. In all that I do and say, I try to testify of Christ, even if that means sharing uplifting messages with random hikers I meet while traversing the hills of Catalina Island. In the past, I have loved organizing and coordinating humanitarian trips as a joint project of Boy Scouts of America and the LDS church. Currently, I love to help others feel Christ's love as I serve as a Ward Mission Leader, teaching, visiting, and serving the members of my local church congregation. I live in a Young Single Adult area on campus, and have the amazing opportunity to help them discover who they are in life and grow to become someone great. I also serve in my local Temple as an Ordinance Worker, helping serve both living and dead in the Gospel. I've recently been called to serve as a Missionary in the Brazil, Cuiaba mission, and I'm excited to learn Portuguese and preach the word of God to the people of Brazil.
