Hi I'm Melvin Pearson

I grew up in Utah and Beaverton, Oregon. After attending BYU I stayed in Utah and went into property management. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I recently retired as a property manager. I managed shopping malls, apartments and office buildings. Since retiring I have enjoyed hiking, pickleball, golf, reading, time with my family and doing things for my church. My first wife passed away about 9 years ago after a long illness. We had 5 children together and currently have 15 grandchildren. When I married again, I gained another 4 children. We recently returned from teaching English in Qingdao, China with the BYU Chinese Teaching Program and are currently preparing to go to Taiwan on a mission for our church.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Mormon Church, but that is not why I have chosen to remain a member. I believe that by following the teachings of the Church I will have an opportunity to return and live with my Heavenly Father with my earthly family. I believe the teaching "Families can be together forever". I also believe that if a person lives by these teachings he or she will become a better person and will look out for their fellowman. I have a testimony of my Heavenly Father. He is real and He cares about me. He allowed me to come to earth to experience a physical body and prove myself worthy to return and live with Him. I know that Jesus is the Christ and that He died for each of us. Thus providing a path to return to our Father in Heaven. He lives! He was resurrected and because of that we will each also resurrect. I know that Joseph Smith restored the Church of Jesus Christ to the earth in these last days. I know that he translated the Book of Mormon and that it is true and contains the word of God. I know that we have a living Prophet of the Lord today, Pres. Russell M Nelson who guides the Lord's church and affairs here on earth. Some have tried to convince me that I do not know what I am talking about, but I have never swayed. I know these things to be true.

How I live my faith

Throughout my life I have always been an active participant in my church and it's activities. As a young man I held positions of leadership of different age groups and helped my leaders in planning their activities. As an adult I have been a leader of young men in church and in the Boy Scouts program. I have also helped the leaders of my local area with record keeping, finances, as a secretary to the local leaders, taught Sunday School classes and helped with charities that the local unit needed help with. After reaching the age of 14 I have always been called as a home teacher to help families in my local unit to better understand God and with their physical needs.
