Hi I'm Elizabeth Sheffer

I love to read, write, travel, and stargaze. I grew up in the church, and I can't imagine my life without it. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love reading, especially fantasy and Shakespeare. It's really funny when people get freaked out when they realize I have a different book every two or three days because I've already finished the last one. I like to write, though I've never published anything besides fanfiction. I want to keep writing, even though I plan to go to school for radiology. It's fun to make up entire worlds in your head. I love astronomy, and stargazing is one of my favorite things to do. I got to visit Cape Canaveral once, and I cried a little when I saw the space shuttle. My love for astronomy actually got me a job teaching it at a Boy Scouts Camp one summer. That was an adventure! I love my family. My siblings are my best friends, I always miss them a lot when I'm away from home. I've got the travel bug. I love going to new places, and I always feel antsy if I spend more than 6 months in one place. I've gone to college at Brigham Young University for two years. I spent last summer in Lithuania teaching English to kids, and decided to serve a mission for the church when I returned home. Look out Brazil! I hope you're ready to be loved!

Why I am a Mormon

It honestly brings me joy. Isn't that what we all want? There's no other feeling like the peace you feel as you live the way members of this church live. This church provides answers to every question I have. My ward leaders are people in the community that I've known my entire life, and that I know care about me. I know that whenever anything bad happens, my ward will help me.

How I live my faith

I attend meetings on Sunday, and go to activities throughout the week. There's always something happening! I've had callings to learn more about my family history, and to teach others how to find out more about their ancestors. I've taught sunday school classes, and helped my parents with their responsibilities. I love this church, and I am leaving to serve an 18 month mission in Brazil very soon! I live my faith by pursuing education. The only thing I live my faith by just being myself. I know right from wrong, and I know that I have the support of my family and friends. I've been taught by my parents to work hard, be kind, and always see and do what needs to be done. When I do these things, I'm living as Christ lived.

What is done with the tithing that Mormons pay?

Elizabeth Sheffer
That's a good question! After all, if our clergy doesn't get paid, where else would it go? Our tithing is used for a lot of different things. Tithing can go to help the missionaries who are around the world sharing our beliefs. It goes towards building chapels and temples, and all of the teaching materials that are found there. This church also does an insane amount of humanitarian work, both locally and internationally. All of those materials come from the donations of members. The important thing for me, is that wherever my donation ends up, it will be to help people. Show more Show less
