Hi I'm Karie

I am Canadian. I am a retired school teacher. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Banff, a beautiful national park where many of my interests grew from. I love the mountains and the outdoors. I graduated from BYU with my teaching degree and taught for 25 years in a little town called Raymond. I coached basketball for many years and I love sport of all kinds. I love to read and I love watching a good movie with a nice big bowl of popcorn. I was single for much of my teaching career, and in 2009, I married a wonderful man with a large and loving family. I became a mother and grandmother overnight, and it has been a most rewarding journey. My husband and I are now both retired and are getting ready to serve a mission in Brisbane Australia. We are both excited and nervous for this next adventure.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have faith that I belong to Christ's church. I believe we have a living prophet and I believe the Book of Mormon to be scripture translated by Joseph Smith. I have always felt that there is a God. It just makes sense to me that something so complex as our earth, our solar system, our nature, and all living beings including us had to come from intelligence far beyond our own. I grew up in an area where I was the only Mormon my age, and I developed a love for many religions, but I have always believed that this church was the gospel that Christ taught when He walked the earth. I continue to follow Christ's gospel because it brings me joy, hope, and peace. I have felt of the Savior's love and His love makes me want to be better, care more, and love without condition.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to become more like Jesus Christ. It is both challenging and joyful striving to become a better person through service, study, and love. Going to church on Sundays to listen to inspiring talks and to sing hymns together helps me feel of the love the Saviour has for me. I serve in my church teaching youth of varying ages in Sunday classes. My husband and I have loved teaching the youth together. Talking to my Heavenly Father through prayer has helped me build a relationship with Him, and reading scripture strengthens this relationship. Feeling the love God and Christ have for me has helped me through hard times and has given me the confidence to know that my life has a purpose and is part of a much bigger picture.
