Hi I'm Thelma

I'm a mom, a grandma, a lover of people and nature. I love the quiet solitude of paddling a kayak with an eagle overhead.

About Me

Hi, I'm Thelma. I'm a mom, a grandma, a lover of people and nature.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because even as a little girl I was always interested in all things religious. Mom took me to the Presbyterian church. I loved the bible stories she would read to me. I went to many different churches with my friends as a teenager and loved it. When the missionaries began to teach me, I was 16. It felt like water to a thirsty soul. When they asked me to pray at the end of a lesson, I hesitated. One missionary saw my hesitation and said, "It's OK. Just say what's in your heart." Well, I could do that. And I did. And I felt heard. Literally. Something important had just happened to me! Soon I made the decision to be baptized. I had studied. I had prayed. It felt right. But I told God "If I ever find out that this isn't right, I'm with You." As It turns out, He's been teaching me ever since just how right it was. I will be forever grateful.

How I live my faith

We live in a small community where there are lots of opportunities for service. I've worked with the high school athletic booster club, taught the four year olds at church, served as the leader of a large women's organization and served as the chorister for Sunday services and loved each duty. We've had a few challenging times in our family-a grandson with cancer, another grand baby with a tumor in utero. When these things presented themselves, I realized there were decisions to be made. Was I going to trust God or not? Would I carry on and do my best or crumble in a heap? I decided to do my best to trust Him. Now, on the other side of those trials, I can see how trustworthy He really is. I understand now how intimately He knows each of His children and how lovingly He works with each of us. There's a short scripture that I've learned is true..."Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you." And boy, does He ever!
