Hi I'm Cliff

California farm boy. Joined LDS Church. Mission to Brazil. BA/MBA. 29 yrs in aerospace. Lived in 30+ places. Life is an adventure!

About Me

I was born in California and raised in a single parent home until I was 12. My mother had a stroke at 35 years old so I went to live with my father and his wife on a farm in Modesto, CA where life was very different. Farm work taught me to work hard and to endure to the end of the job. That work ethic paid off in school and jobs. During my high school years I was searching for spiritual truth. My mother took me to the Methodist and then the Presbyterian church as a youth. I felt something real and special about Jesus Christ, but was confused by the myriad christian and other churches who disagreed about the nature of god and doctrines. Some condemned others to a lesser place in heaven or even to hell. The bloody historical conflicts in the UK between Catholic and Protestant believers also disturbed me. I studied with the Jehovahs Witnesses for two years, but they did not focus on Christ as the Savior. At the end of my senior year Royce, a close friend, invited me to work at a mountain camp for boys, and my life changed forever for the better. Royce had joined the LDS church the previous year. The owner of the camp was also LDS. They invited me to investigate the church. I agreed. The message taught by the missionaries felt more like a remembering than an education. I prayed. I read the Book of Mormon. I received an embryo testimony. I was baptized. I had finally found the fulness of the gospel of Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I prayed sincerely, privately to know if the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and if Joseph Smith was truly a prophet. At first I received a gentle reassurance. Forty-seven years of striving to keep my covenants with God have cemented that first assurance into a sure knowledge. The question is not if the church and its teachings are true, but if I will be true to God to the end. Anyone who sincerely investigates this church and reaches out to God with a true heart will know that Christ's true church was restored, with all the authority, power, ordinances, and knowledge required for a person to live again in God's presence.

How I live my faith

Forty-seven years serving in the church has taught me how to love and serve others. My wife and I are now serving a Member and Leadership Support full-time mission in our home area for 18 months. The goal is to help people come unto Jesus Christ and receive all of the incredible blessings that come with that relationship, as well as support church leaders in that same effort. We were not aware of the option to serve a full-time mission in our home area, and we were surprised when the call came. We excitedly and gratefully serve.
