Hi I'm Ruth

I was born and raised in Northern Utah. When I was nine years old my family lived for three years in Great Britain. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a stay-at-home mom whose youngest is soon to leave "the nest". Mother has been my career of choice for the last 40 years, and is the most difficult, and the most rewarding, thing I have ever done! Although you're never really through being a mom, the nature of the calling changes when they leave home. I so enjoy being with my adult children, and being a grandma is the best job ever! I have many other interests, some developed before motherhood became my career, some after. I've been a seamstress since my grandma taught me to make doll clothes when I was six. I didn't really become proficient at it until I was a teenager, which was a good thing since I was tall and skinny, and pretty much had to make my own clothes if I wanted them to fit! It also came in handy after I married a school teacher and made our family's clothing to save money. After our sixth child was born, I was introduced to quilting/piecing quilts, and loved it! For 15 years I was involved in a business that put on a quilting retreat every January, and that was so much fun! I got to know many quilters from many different places and backgrounds, and loved them all! I'm also an avid reader, and love a well-written novel no matter the genre. I've loved camping all my life except when we had babies. Too bad, because babies naturally love to touch, eat, and bathe in dirt. I like swimming, cycling, hiking, and doing just about anything with my sweetheart of a husband.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was young I was a Mormon because my parents were Mormons. Now I am Mormon because I have learned for myself that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ visited the boy Joseph, a humble and impressionable youth, and made him their instrument to restore the gospel in its fullness, with all the saving principles and ordinances that make it possible for me to experience joy here on Earth, and Eternal Life in the world to come! I learned this as I prayed to know, and received strong spiritual impressions through the Holy Ghost. My understanding of gospel principles came as I lived them and received the blessings from doing so. My confirmation that this pathway I am on is the right one has come by watching others who follow the same path and experience happiness, as well as those who have not, whose lives have been overwhelmingly hard. In other words, I have seen their fruits, and it is the sweet fruit of living the gospel that I want! I am a Mormon because I love God, and I know He loves me and has given me scriptures and prophets to guide me back to His presence. I have found in this religion all that I need to feel fulfilled as a woman! I know that I am a daughter of God, and my worth is infinite to Him!

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be kind, not judging others, serving those around me, and looking for the good and the beautiful in people. My favorite callings in my church have been those where I get to work with children or teenagers. Most recently I've been a chorister and a teacher in the Primary, the children's auxiliary, and Assistant Camp Director for the teenage girls' camp. I think I love working with the youth most of all because of their willingness to learn from someone who doesn't know it all, plus they are slow to judge, and quick to forgive!
