Hi I'm Steve Packer

I grew up in New Mexico near the Navajo reservation. I have 8 children and 26 grandchildren. and I love my family. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am just your average family man, like so many others out there. I grew up in northwest New Mexico with a large number of cousins around, and loved being with them for regular family activities. My ancestors were original settlers of the area and I loved hearing their stories. I would ride my motorcycle around the bluffs and sand dunes, looking for native Indian artifacts. While attending college I traveled as a part of an International Folk Dance team to Eastern and Western Europe. Upon my return I met and married my sweetheart, Renee. We have been married for 39 years and have 8 wonderful children, and 26 grandchildren. I have been blessed to always have work in the computer industry, and that it has provided for our family's needs. For the first 15 years of our marriage we moved often and lived in California, Utah, Texas and Arkansas. I believe that helped our children learn to reach out and embrace new friends and new adventures. I love golfing, hiking and camping. Whenever I am in the outdoors I see the beauty surrounding me and am in awe of what God has created, and his love for me as an individual.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to wonderful parents who were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They taught me the gospel principles as a child and I was baptized as a child. When I was 19 I was called to serve a full time mission for two years. After 18 months of service, I got a phone call notifying me that my father had died suddenly of a heart attack. I was devastated, and my faith was severely tested. I even questioned if what I was teaching was really true. As I prayed, desperately seeking answers, I had a very sacred experience that confirmed to my soul the reality of the Savior, Jesus Christ, and the healing power of His Atonement. At that moment, I KNEW that God lived and that the Plan of Salvation was real, and that the restored gospel of Jesus Christ was true. I have had the Spirit testify to me personally many times that God and Jesus Christ truly appeared to the prophet Joseph Smith, and through him the priesthood and true gospel of Jesus Christ was restored to the earth. Because of that I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. Many times there have been trials and tests of my testimony, but because of my personal knowledge of that vision and restoration, I have never had any more doubts.

How I live my faith

I currently serve in a position where I am asked to speak to different congregations each month. I enjoy sharing my love of the Savior and my testimony of the restored gospel. I also live in a community where I have many opportunities to serve neighbors who are elderly, sick or alone. It is a great privilege for me to get to know these good friends, and to help them in any way that I can. I will be retiring soon, and have chosen to serve a full time mission with my wife. I look forward to sharing the peace and joy I have found through the Savior, Jesus Christ, with many others.
