Hi I'm Robert Thomas Bass

Disciple time, Husband time, Father time, Airmen time, Scout time... These are the times of my life.

About Me

I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ! It has built me into the person I am and fills my mind with excitement as I strive to learn, live, and love the principles and doctrines of the gospel. I love my family. My best friend Layci and I were married in 2011. Layci is my everything and together we find joy. We made a regular old Brady bunch that we call the Bass Bunch by merging our two families of four kids a piece to an eight kid powerhouse. We serve in the United States Air Force and attend Pathways. We love to learn and are doing our best to instill that love of learning into our children. I love scouting! The Boy Scouts of America is a fantastic way for boys to learn how to become men. If every boy learned and loved the principles of scouting we could achieve world peace. I earned my Eagle Scout when I was 14 years old and attended Wood Badge at 34; which renewed my love of Scouting. Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting, said "Scouting is a game with a purpose". I hope that is what I can say at the end of my life, "My life was a game with a purpose."

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because it has all the answers to find peace and joy in this life. It sets my feet to the path of being one with God and Jesus Christ and my family forever. It teaches the principles and doctrines of how to live in peace and harmony with all mankind and helps us realize where we came from, who we really are, what we are doing here, and where we will go when we die. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has the ability to change hearts and lives. All things are possible through the power of God. All the keys have been restored and this is Christ's kingdom, just as He had established when He walked the Earth. Because He is risen from the dead He still leads the Church today. He has established order through His prophets and apostles. They lead us in the best ways to serve one another and life the principles and doctrines of the Gospel. Most of all we have a tender Father in Heaven who spreads His tender mercies to our lives. He has established this world to teach us how to become like Him. Our sufferings are never more than they need to be to teach us what we need to be like Him. God, our Father, has a perfect understanding and has planned out each and every step of our existence. Thus all we must do is learn trust in Him. Through that obedience we become exactly what He created us to be. I'm a Mormon because God created me for a work to do and I will live up to that which He created me for.

How I live my faith

As I contemplate how I live my faith and think about the phases of my life I'm drawn to the Almas. In the Book of Mormon there are two prophets named Alma. Usually they are referred to as Alma the Elder and Alma the Younger. I relate to both. When we first meet Alma he is serving as a priest to King Noah. King Noah was a wicked man and encouraged wickedness in his priests. Abinadi came and called King Noah and his priests to repentance and Alma the Elder was the only one to listen and he was persecuted. Yet, he changed his life and helped others to change theirs. Alma the Younger was his son. For a good part of his life Alma the Younger fought against the Church that his father taught and then was humbled by an angel to turn his life around. What does all this have to do with me? I relate to both because I've had times in my life when I didn't fully understand and had to learn the hard way. That hard way has taught me and increased my faith in Jesus Christ. It taught me about repentance and the love that Christ has for us in a very real and personal manner. I have been converted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and strive each day to become more like Him and my Father in Heaven. I serve by teaching my wife and children the principles of the Gospel. I serve by leading my Webelos den in the Boy Scouts of America, and teaching those boys how to become men. I strive to invite others to come unto Christ.
