Hi I'm Alissa

I grew up in Idaho. I love my family. I received my mission call on September 22, 2017 and look forward to serving the Lord.

About Me

From the time I was little, I loved sports. I played football, soccer, softball, track, basketball, and volleyball. I wanted to play volleyball or basketball in college, but I had three knee surgeries that made it difficult for me to play. It is a blessing that I love school, because I turned my efforts towards applying for college and taking very difficult classes. Now, I am at college studying mechanical engineering. I love to fish and hike, take long walks with my friends, cook, and read. My family is extremely important to me. I am one of nine children, and so there are plenty of opportunities for me to be annoyed with them. However, I have learned to see them through God's eyes, and now I am constantly filled with love for them. I try to call and talk to them at least twice a week to see how their lives are. My family has been a huge part of my testimony of the gospel. They motivate me to make right choices because I want to be with them for eternity.

Why I am a Mormon

From the time I was little, I always wondered about how the world was created. I asked myself the question, "Where did I come from?" When I looked around me, the complexities of nature seemed so much more than chance. I truly felt like there was someone who created everything. And, if he created me, then he definitely did it out of love. It was like when I put up a picture I drew on the refrigerator, I never put one up there that I didn't think was special. That's how I feel about God, He wouldn't have put me on this beautiful earth unless He thought I was special and worth a lot to Him. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints teaches that God is our Father and that He loves us. Whenever I am sad or in pain or am troubled, I pray to God and ask to feel His love for me. Every single time, I feel that love. In the New Testament, Jesus Christ said that the first and greatest commandment is to love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. Because I know that God loves me, I want to return that love. When I prayed to know if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was the only true church, I got the answer that it was. So, every good action that I do in the service of others is a way for me to show that I love God. When I go to church, I show God that I love Him. When I talk to my siblings kindly, I show God that I love the family He has given me. Everything that I do for the church is because I love God.

How I live my faith

Even though this is my first semester of college, I was asked by our bishop to be a member missionary coordinator, which means that I help the people in our church share the gospel as well as helping anyone with their needs. It is something that I really enjoy doing because it allows me to get to know new people and do lots of service. I love working with the people in my committee because we always talk first about the people around us that are struggling and the ways that we can help them out. It is so neat to be a part of a church that is always concerned with every single member.
