Hi I'm Sam Martinez

I just graduated from high school (2017) Three activities I love are Baseball, Theatre, and Digital Media. I'm a Mormon

About Me

In 2020 I am planning on going to collage at SLCC for Digital Media focusing on Animation. All the way up through 6th grade I was home schooled. I went to Alta High School as well as CTEC, which is a tech school. I was in all the high school musicals. For the first three years I was an ensamble member and Senior year was the lead in the Music Man. I played baseball throughout my high school career and only was a starter half way through my senior year. My favorite thing though is going and hanging out with friends. Some of my friends call me Sambrero. I am a huge extrovert, and I am only kind of shy when it comes to dates, but then again who isn't? I did date a girl for a little over a year, but then realized that I needed to be doing more with my time and get to know other girls and go on dates with other people. Sometimes it seems like I live at my friends' houses and come home just to sleep, but I love my family. I have two brothers both older than me. Me and my brothers are best friends, but with all brothers, we get into arguments, especially me and the middle brother. Usually over stupid stuff that seems important at the time.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were members, so I was raised knowing what and who Mormons were, what the LDS Church was about, etc. However they never pushed me to be a member. They let me decide whether or not I would go to church and participate. As I was growing up it seemed like the right thing. As I came into High School though, it became a bit more foggy as to if the church was the right thing for me. I came across a talk by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf. It was entitled Doubt Your Doubts Before You Doubt Your Faith. It was at that moment that I learned for myself what the church was all about, not just spewing out what my parents had taught me. It was during the latter part of my Junior year of studying the church that I personally knew that this was not just a good place and religion to be in but also it was the right place and religion to be in. Why? Because it gives me a happiness. It gives me a purpose and I know that all the teachings were and still are correct. Not just because someone told me. But because I discovered it for myself.

How I live my faith

Soon I will be leaving to Washington State as a missionary to teach people there about the LDS church for two years. Before I leave for Washington here are a few things I have done/do here in Utah. Every Sunday I go to church. I try my best to read my scriptures and talks from the leaders of the church as well as praying daily. That being said I'm not the best at that, which is something I am working to be better at. I love my assignment to go to two different households in the neighborhood and visit with that family and share a mini lesson with them. For a time I was part of a counsel of youth who did planning for activities from a Wednesday get together, to a camping trip down in Moab and even service projects.
