Hi I'm Jess

I'm preparing to serve a mission in California. I've loved this gospel all my life and am excited to share it. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My life is pretty simple. Indoors, I enjoy writing, reading, learning, playing my violin, singing, baking, and watching movies. I love outdoor activities too, especially when said activities involve climbing trees, hiking, or the best lake in the entire world. I am a proud owner of a beautiful truck that's as old as me, and with it, I enjoy developing calloused hands, funny tan lines, and a stubbornness that's so strong it's sometimes laughable. I love to laugh and think that brownies are just about the best thing ever.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of this church all my life, and throughout my life, my testimony has only grown stronger. I know with all my heart that this church is true. One of the most testimony-strengthening times in my life was when I was just under fourteen years old, when I had to have a surgery that changed my life. I was in a lot of pain throughout the several months of recovery from that surgery, so much that I know I had help getting through it. On one of the first nights of recovery, I read Alma 7 verses 11 through 13, and with that, I knew that my Savior understands every struggle of my life, including the pain I was experiencing in the months after that surgery. Since then, my confidence in that truth has grown stronger and stronger. I know that Jesus Christ carried out the Atonement not only so we could be forgiven of our sins, but also so that we never have to feel alone when times get hard. He will always be there to help hold us up. I love the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon, and could be called a scripture nerd because I have so many favorite verses. I love the stories and the lessons that come from them. The prophets of the Book of Mormon are my heroes, and I know that they are truly servants of God. This Church is true. It was restored by a modern-day prophet of God who translated the Book of Mormon from ancient plates, a prophet who gave his life because of his faith. That great man has been succeeded by other modern-day prophets, who continue to receive revelation and who teach and testify of Christ. I know that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we all can be forgiven. I know that our Savior understands each and every one of us, and that through Him, we can return to the presence of our Heavenly Father and can be with our families forever. I am so grateful for this gospel. It is everything to me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every day, but now more than ever as I am preparing to be a missionary. Within the next few weeks, I will leave my home state for 18 months to go and share my beliefs with people I have never met. To prepare for this, I do a lot of studying to make sure I can teach and answer questions in a way that makes sense to others. I'm excited to go do the Lord's work, to share the gospel, and to serve, serve, serve! When I'm not studying and preparing for my mission, I also am called as a primary chorister and nursery chorister, where, on Sundays, I spend two hours putting on a show and making a fool of myself in front of a few dozen kids or toddlers to help them learn songs and develop a love for music. I'm new at this calling, but I love it! I know that music is one of the best ways of inviting the Spirit, so I am so grateful for the opportunity to sing with these kids.
