Hi I'm Ireri

I am preparing to serve a mission in Cuernavaca, Mexico. I sang Opera for a year at Weber State University. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a shy girl who tries to avoid being the center of attention, and also happens to sing Opera. I absolutely love music. It's my life. I love singing, whether it's in a choir, or as a soloist. I went to school for a year majoring in Vocal Pedagogy. I aim to be a Voice Teacher, or to teach music in some form or another.

Why I am a Mormon

I was "born" into this church, meaning that both of my parents were already members when I was born, so for my entire life I had gone to church and memorized simple things such as, "God lives, and he loves me". But I never actually realized just how true those simple things were until I sang in a choir for a special Hispanic LDS event. During that event, we were singing about how the Book of Mormon teaches of Christ's ministry in the Americas after he had resurrected. I was 14 at the time. I remember that our choir director gave us the challenge of reading 3 Nephi 11. I did, but didn't really understand it until we sang about it. There was a man dressed like Christ, reenacting this story from the Book of Mormon, while we sang like a choir of angels in the background. I knew that the man wasn't really Christ, but in that a moment I felt an enormous feeling engulf my body as I felt the Holy Ghost testifying to me that Christ is a real, living person, who loves me so much that he actually died for me, and suffered because of my sins. I don't know how to explain this special moment for you to understand it unless you've had a similar experience, because it was like I just suddenly knew that Christ lives. I suddenly knew that the Book of Mormon was true, which meant that this church was Christ's restored gospel, which meant that Joseph Smith really was a prophet of God, which meant that everything that I had memorized as a child was TRUE. It was as if God had thrown a pie full of knowledge into my face! Since that moment, whenever I feel lost, or afraid, or unloved, I know that I have an all powerful Father in Heaven who created everything I see and feel in this world, just for me and the rest of his children. I feel that sweet pie being thrown into my face every time I pray or read my scriptures. I know that you can also feel the same happiness I feel from living the gospel. That is why I am a Mormon - because it brings me happiness.

How I live my faith

In my tiny Spanish Branch, I serve as both a translator from Spanish to English / English to Spanish, and the Primary Music Director. As a Primary Music Director, I teach children of my branch from ages 3-12yrs the simple truths of the gospel through songs. I also sing in an institute choir and serve as a section leader. I am currently preparing to serve an LDS mission in Cuernavaca, Mexico. I will be testifying of Christ and of his restored church for an 18 month period.
