Hi I'm Ashley

I am a college student. I love creating art and learning law. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

New York has been my home for most of my life. In with grade I started drawing with little promise in my aesthetic abilities. However, after a lot of diligent hard work I found a passion for drawing realism inspired portraits with charcoal. Ever since I was very young I have also wanted to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. I worked hard in my classes to prepare myself to apply my senior year. Not only did I put a lot of effort into my learning but I also absolutely loved my classes! I found and still find the way the world and universe works through calculus and physics so intriguing and discovered my passion for analyzing literature and most especially government and politics. I also found much joy in a class LDS youth take before school called seminary. Here I further developed a better understanding of the Bible and the Book of Mormon, both witnesses of Jesus Christ. At the end of my senior year I was very excited to learn I was accepted into BYU and attended that fall on academic and fine arts scholarships. I have continued to love my classes there and I am currently planning on proceeding towards a Bachelor’s degree in teaching social sciences and am strongly considering attending law school to become an immigration attorney. Recently, after much prayer and thought, I decided to put my education on hold to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because there is nothing that has given me more strength and peace to move through life than the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Book of Mormon. Through learning and practicing these teachings I have a perspective and understanding of who I am, what my purpose is and who I want to become, that I have found no where else. I have gained so much peace and comfort in learning and drawing closer to my Savior, Jesus Christ through practicing my faith. Through him I have the strength and the motivation to overcome weaknesses and hard times in my life. I am a Mormon because it has changed how I see my life and how I live it.

How I live my faith

To me living my faith is all about living by faith. Everything I do reflects the type of person I want to be and what I have faith or believe in, even if its not easy. I want be a good person and to make a positive difference in people's lives so I want to always live and focus on the good and the positive. To me this church and the teachings within it have brought so much good into my life and has allowed me to become a better person. I have faith that if I live the teachings and principles that I believe in as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ, that I will be able to make a positive difference in my own life and hopefully bring happiness to the people around me. I am living my faith by sacrificing a year and a half that could be spent working towards school and leaving my friends and family to share this faith with others and if they desire, give them a message that has given me a happier and better life.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Ashley
No we do not. Similar to those of the Old testament we give all glory not to prophets but to God and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith, similar to the prophets that lead our church today, served as a spokesperson for God. Through his strong connection to him and authority to receive direct revelation from him for those who wish to follow Jesus Christ, he reestablished Christ's church on the earth and gave us understanding of Christ's teachings for us. He is the instrument to allow God's work to be accomplished, not God. Show more Show less
