Hi I'm Sarah Derby

I grew up in New York. I attend BYU-Idaho. I play the cello. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am the third of four children. I am a student at BYU-Idaho studying international studies. I enjoy music in many forms especially orchestral. One of my favorite things to do is talk to my siblings and parents. As we have grown up it has become harder for all of us to meet. It is great when we can all come together and have a lot of fun.

Why I am a Mormon

Even though I was born into the church, I had to make a conscious effort to become a member. I still make an effort everyday in order to become more converted to the church. I grew up being the only Mormon in my school. This gave me the opportunity to be around people with drastically different upbringings especially when it came to religion. In school I began to realize that my testimony wasn't yet strong enough to stand on its own. I then decided to find out for myself if the church was true. Years later, I can tell you that it is. I know that there is a Father in Heaven who loves us and that this is His church. I know that following the commandments and putting in the effort is worth it and that it brings joy. I know that just having a desire to learn is enough to get the ball rolling. I know that Christ is our Savior who came and sacrificed Himself for our sins. None of us can be perfect without Him and we are all here to help one another.

How I live my faith

I try my best to smile. A large part of our church is inviting people to learn about the gospel and be happy. It is my goal to greet everyone I meet with a smile and to help them know that they are welcome. It is amazing to see how much people appreciate a kind, thoughtful word. With any calling that I have I like to remember that it is my duty to serve and love others.
