Hi I'm Seth

Hi, I'm a nerd, student (but not right now), an oldest brother, and a missionary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a student. I am majoring in Economics, as well as in Philosophy. I love learning and reading anything from humanities to social sciences, hard sciences, and literature, and everything in between and intersecting. I enjoy playing sports I'm no good at, eating chocolate, having discussions with friends, playing bass guitar, listening to a wide variety of music, playing D&D, and doing service and social activism. My family lives in Upstate New York, and I am the oldest of four boys.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the truth I find in the scriptures, and the feelings I get when reading those and praying. This is a religion in which your faith shouldn't be blind, but should be tested by sincere reading and prayer. This is perhaps exemplified by the Prophet Joseph Smith who asked God which church to join, and was answered with none, but that he needed to restore the church to the earth. I believe this is the truest church, in terms of authority and many important teachings. In our church, we believe in the importance and truth of many religions, most, if not all, of which contain bits of truth. The second president of the church, Brigham Young, said, "The Gospel of life and salvation that we have embraced in our faith, and that we profess to carry out in our lives, incorporates all truth." This also incorporates what we can learn and approximate from science. Brigham Young also said, "Don't try to tear down other people's religion about their ears, Build up your own perfect structure of truth, and invite your listeners to enter in and enjoy its glories." We do not want to destroy good beliefs, but rather add on to them, and enrich lives even more.

How I live my faith

I am currently a missionary, teaching the people in and around Boise, Idaho. I enjoy reading the scriptures as well as religious history, philosophy, and theology. Most importantly, I strive to serve others, like Jesus Christ did, especially those who are at a disadvantage, or are temporally worse off than others.
