Hi I'm Joseph

I grew up in the United States. I was home-schooled by a theater loving Mom. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am an 18 year old recent high-school graduate. I am into reading, theater, friendly debate competitions and strategy heavy games. I also enjoy the outdoors, and having fun with family and friends in sports and other activities. I recently received a mission call to serve in the England Leeds Mission. I am to arrive at the Preston England Missionary Training Center late this November and I am very exited!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that had already accepted the gospel. On my Mom's side most of my ancestors were pioneers who crossed the plains to settle in Utah and the surrounding areas with Brigham Young and other early prophets in the Latter Day church. On my Dad's side, both of his parents joined the church later in life, as adults. I have been blessed from day one to be able to know people from both sides and hear faith building stories. My parents did the best they could to always have the influence of the spirit in our home. We said prayers and read scriptures as a family and attended church every Sunday even when all of us young children were still having trouble with the concepts of being quiet, sitting still, or obeying instructions. When I learned to read I was almost immediately challenged to read the Book of Mormon on my own and pray about whether or not it was true. I had felt the spirit before and I decided to take up the challenge. I read the Book of Mormon, and just as is promised in its pages when I prayed about it I received a witness that it was really the word of God, and his commandments and guidance for me in my life could be found there. When my parents asked me whether or not I wanted to be baptized the answer was easy for me. Since then, life has not all been easy. I have had my fair share of challenges, spiritually and physically. I have learned through experience that the way to find happiness in this life is through obedience to the commandments of Jesus Christ. I have seen the effects of his Atonement for my sins, when I have been able to repent and find peace with the Holy Spirit. I am a Mormon today because I love the Lord and have received my witness of his love for all of us and his marvelous power.

How I live my faith

One of the things I have always admired about the way that the Lord set up his church is that there is a way for everyone to participate--all of us can help and serve each other. I am a young single man, without a ton of life experience or skills, but I have been able to help through visiting and teaching, assisting with yard-work and other tasks, especially when the people in need of help are elderly or sick. This is what religion is really about I think, serving those who are in need, growing closer to God and each other.
