Hi I'm Avery Hess

I was born in California and grew up in Utah. I love adventure and putting myself out there. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in the LDS Church. I am currently a college student, but I will be deferring several semesters to serve an LDS mission in the Japan Tokyo Mission. I absolutely love to draw, read, cook, and I'm working on my baking skills! My favorite holiday is Halloween, and I love to find the perfect costume each year, as well as decorate in "spooky" ways. I enjoy hiking, swimming, and various other outdoor activities. I hope to be able to travel the world, and I am specifically interested in visiting art museums in Europe, as I am an Art History Minor at my college.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the LDS church, so I never really gave thought to why I was a member of the Church other than that my parents were. However, around the time that I was leaving middle school and entering high school, our family had some major trials come up that really affected my life. I started to question if God actually loved us, and as I became more distant to those around me, I began to question if I was even loved at all. Thankfully, I had been taught to always look to the right places for answers, so I prayed and started to read my scriptures regularly. My life certainly didn't become all sunshine and daisies immediately after, but I started to feel happier and like I actually mattered. Eventually I came to develop my own testimony of the Atonement and happiness that Heavenly Father's plan can give us, and I stand where I am today. I certainly have so much more left to learn, but I now can say that I know that there is a Heavenly Father above who knows our individual problems, and can help us if we reach our hand out to Him. His Son, Jesus Christ, died so he could atone for our sins so that we could live with our Father again. I am so grateful to have this Gospel in my life, and I know that I would be lost and unhappy without it.

How I live my faith

I am a temple worker, meaning I have been called to aid with sacred procedures performed in our LDS temples. I love the Spirit that you can feel there, and I encourage anyone who is investigating our church to look into attending a temple open house, where visitors can tour the temple prior to its being dedicated. I also attend our weekly church meetings as well as participate in various fun activities promoted by the Church throughout the week. I am preparing to serve an LDS mission, which I am incredibly excited for!
