Hi I'm Sam Stephens

I grew up in Provo, Utah. I am an only child. The majority of my family is from Idaho. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love the sport of basketball. Ever since I was in elementary school i grew to love the sport and became quite good. I also enjoy other hobbies like fishing. Currently I am serving a mission for the LDS church. I am lucky enough to be serving in the county of Argentina. Once I return I will attend college and hopefully get a degree in either mechanical engineering or a health profession.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been raised in the LDS church all my life. My mother and father taught me from an early age the principles of the gospel and how to follow them. As I have grown older and become more independent I have had to choose for myself what I actually believe is true. Through reading my scriptures and saying my prayers I have been able to grow a relationship with Heavly Father and feel the spirit testify strongly to me that this gospel is true. My father died right after I finished my freshman year of high school. Since I had no siblings and it was now just my mother and I, I had a terrible time dealing with it. Depressive thoughts took over my last few years of high school and I was unable to break free from that until I graduated and started to work towards a mission. Christ and his Atonement has helped me to overcome some of the many trials I have had and has helped me to be more compassionate towards others. As I have followed the commandments and kept myself in line with the teachings of the gospel I have grown a greater love for others. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true and restored church of God. I know that modern day prophets to live today and receive revelation from God. I know Joseph Smith saw God and Jesus Christ in the sacred grove and that he translated the Book of Mormon. Our Heavenly Father loves us and wishes for us to return to live with him and our families again so he gave his son Jesus Christ to atone for our sins. I am grateful for this gospel and I know that it is true.

How I live my faith

Prior to serving a mission I was able to teach the nine year old children in our ward about the gospel. I attend church meetings regularly. study the Book of Mormon, and pray very often. I enjoy doing service for others, especially the elderly. Since there are temples so close to where I live I get the amazing opportunity to visit them regularly.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Sam Stephens
We believe that in order to live with our Heavenly Father again we must all be baptized into his church. Since God wants all of his children to live with him again those who have already died must be given this opportunity as well. We perform baptisms for the dead by baptizing a living person in place of the dead. We obtain those names for the dead from family history work. The church keeps records of those who have already been baptized and those who haven't so they aren't done twice. Show more Show less
