Hi I'm Craig

I was a Chief Financial Officer at Hospitals in the US for 35 years. I have been retired for 8 months. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Arizona. For most of my life, I grew up in a single parent home as my father died from cancer when I was 6 years old. My mother never re-married. My mother went back to school when I was in elementary school and got her college degree in teaching when I was in 4th grade. I think this helped me realize the importance of education at a young age. I got my degree in accounting from Arizona State University. My second job out of college was at a Hospital. and I ended up working in Healthcare the rest of my career as either a controller or a Chief Financial Officer. My wife and I have been married for 43 years. We have 8 children, 6 boys and 2 girls. We now have 26 grandchildren with 2 more on the way. I love to garden and we have had a vegetable garden most of our married life plus roses and flowers around our home. I also like to sing and play the guitar. My grandchildren like me to play the guitar and sing songs to them. I also tell my grandchildren stories with characters that I make up and they have fantastic adventures in make believe places. My grandchildren love these stories. I also told my children some of the same stories and played my guitar and sang with them also. I am enjoying being retired and going on trips to see our children and grandchildren. My wife and I also like to travel and go to different states and countries. In October 2017, we are going on a Senior Mission to work with Young Adults in Portugal.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because that is who I am. A Mormon is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. It means that I have chosen to be a follower of Jesus and to follow His teachings and to keep His commandments. I do this because I know He is the Son of God and the Savior of this world. He took upon Himself my sins and the sins of everyone who will ever live in this world. We can be forgiven of our sins thru His sacrifice if we will accept and follow Him. He also overcame physical death thru His resurrection from the dead. I know we will all be able to also be resurrected because He broke the bands of death. We will all live forever because of Him and I want to live forever with Him and my Heavenly Parents and my family. I know this is possible because my family has been sealed as an eternal marriage thru His Priesthood power that has been restored to this earth. I have received so many blessings from Him and Heavenly Father as I keep Their commandments and teachings and try my best to live a life full of goodness and truth. I don't just believe these things. I know them to be true thru the power of the Holy Ghost. Without the gospel and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I am nothing and would be lost in this world of confusion and changing values. With Heavenly Father and Jesus in my life, I can do anything with their help. In the Book of Mormon it says in Ether 12:41 "And now I would commend you to seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written". I likewise commend you to seek Jesus that He may be in your life and bless you as He has me and my family.

How I live my faith

I like to do Family History work and learn more about my ancestors. Some of them fought in the Revolutionary War and some were pioneers who migrated out West. On my mothers side they were farmers in Indiana and then moved to Chicago where my mother grew up in the suburbs. My maternal grandfather worked for the railroad as a mechanic and later as a conductor. The Church has great resources on familysearch.org. Learning about my ancestors helps me know my roots and where I came from. My children and grandchildren also are interested in this and like me to share the things I got passed down from my mother and also things I have found out on my own. I have also been a home teacher most of my adult life. I have 3 families where they are either widows or single parent homes where me and my 18 year old companion visit them at least monthly to see how they are doing and to offer assistance when needed. Last week one of the widows I visit needed to go to the Hospital in the middle of the night. She was having problems with her heart so she called me and I took her to the Emergency Room at the Hospital. I stayed with her until the doctor got her stabilized and she got the medicine and treatment she needed and then I took her back home.We also have family prayer and scripture study every day and ask for Heavenly Father and Jesus to watch over us and our family members and to keep us from harm and danger and to help us with the problems that come up in our lives. They do help us and watch over us and I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus live and that they are real and that they love us. My wife and I are also Sunday School teachers at Church and we talk about the teachings of Jesus that are in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. My wife taught the teenage kids for 7 years in Seminary. It is a religion class that is taught early morning before they go to school. She really loved doing that. We just try our best to be good Christians and follow the teachings of Jesus.

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Craig
We increase our faith in Jesus Christ by following His teachings. As we live His commandments and receive the blessings promised with that commandment, our faith in Him grows. We see that we are being blessed and that His teachings do bring us happiness and joy. The more of His teachings we follow, the more we will be blessed, and the more we know that He truly is the Son of God. Our faith increases and we come to know that only by following Him can we receive true joy in this life and eternal life with Him and Heavenly Father in the next life. Show more Show less
