Hi I'm Ray Graham

I grew up in Texas. I joined the Church when I was 20 years old and a junior at Texas A&M University.

About Me

My early years were spent on a ranch in Texas where my father was ranch foreman. I love horseback riding and most other sports, including track, basketball, tennis, wrestling, and soccer. I am currently retired after a career of 35 years as a university professor. I now spend my time helping to design materials to help others develop basic literacy skills and learn foreign languages.

Why I am a Mormon

I was a junior in college when the missionaries came to our home. I loved the clarity of their message regarding God's plan of happiness and the doctrine of Christ. I found that their teachings about God as our literal Father in Heaven, helped me to reestablish a relationship that I had felt earlier in life as I had prayed. I studied, fasted and prayed intensively about their message and was eventually filled with an extraordinary power that convinced me that their message was form God. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a year later, served a mission in which I had many miraculous experiences that further strengthened my convictions of the truthfulness of the Gospel of Christ. Now, 55 years later, I feel that the decision to accept the teaching of Christ as presented by those missionaries, was the best decision of my life.

How I live my faith

One of my favorite responsibilities in the church is home teaching. I love getting to know people and being a friend when they have special needs. I have had many very positive experiences with families who were struggling in their relationships, either as a couple or as parents of a child who was making bad choices, where I was able to help them recognize that the our Savior, Jesus Christ, provides the only real way to deal with life's challenges. I have witnessed many miracles in their lives as they put their trust in the Savior.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Ray Graham
The most important event in the history of humanity and of the universe, is the atonement of Jesus Christ. It consisted of His taking upon Himself the sins, pains and suffering of all mankind in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross of Calvary. That event is what makes it possible for us to receive forgiveness of our sins, be resurrected, and live forever with our Heavenly Father and Christ. Without his atoning sacrifice we would be doomed to eternal suffering. Show more Show less
