Hi I'm Jake Duke

I have lived in Mesa, Arizona for most of my life. I will be on a mission in Xalapa, Mexico from 2017-2019. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Throughout high school, I was involved in several sports such as golf, basketball, and volleyball. Also, I enjoyed being a part of a service club where we had many opportunities to have an impact in the lives of others. I always want and strive to live a life full of service towards others. Playing the guitar is also one of my favorite things to do. During the summers before leaving on my mission, I have worked and spent time with family and friends. I really enjoy meeting new people and making friends. There are so many ways to connect and get to know others. One of my favorite ways to get to know people is through simple things like playing games or through any other fun activity.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family in the church, and I was baptized at 8 years old. I have not always had a testimony of the Gospel. A few years ago, my beloved grandma received stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and she only had months to live. Every weekend for a few months, my mom and I would drive about 2 hours in order to visit her for the weekend. As she lived out those last few months of her life, I had very many tender experiences which touched my heart and drew my mind towards my Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ. Around the same time, I began seminary and started reading the Book of Mormon. With the help of amazing family and leaders, I began to exercise faith in Jesus Christ by living the way that He would want me to live. I am a Mormon because I know that this is the truth that will help us live a life full of joy and peace amidst the trouble around us in the world and that will lead us back to live with our Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ. I know that the Book of Mormon is true because I have read it and received a sure answer that it is true through the Holy Ghost as I have prayed about it. I know that Joseph Smith was the prophet of the Restoration who helped restore the Gospel of Jesus Christ back onto the earth, and we have a living prophet today who guides this church. I know that we have a living and loving Heavenly Father who knows each of us because we are His children. He sent His Son Jesus Christ to be our Savior so that He could atone for our sins. I know that if we have faith in Jesus Christ and repent of our sins and follow Him into the waters of baptism, being baptized in the proper manner and by proper authority, then we can be made clean, whole, and full of joy, and it will prepare us to live with God again.

How I live my faith

I have been very grateful to have the opportunity to serve in the Mesa, Arizona Temple baptistery. It is a joy to see so many diverse people of different ages and backgrounds come into the Lord's House to perform ordinances for their family members who have past on. Also, while preparing for my mission, I have had other opportunities to serve such as teaching a Gospel Essentials class and home teaching. I have loved to have the opportunities to teach others and share my testimony especially as I have been preparing for my mission.
