Hi I'm Katelyn

I grew up in Arizona. I'm a student studying Human Development, aspiring to be a Child Life Specialist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love swimming, wake boarding, hiking, and spending time with friends and family. I'm all about calling nature "neature", because being outdoors & seeing the beautiful Earth God's created is really something so cool- nothing beats it. I'm a college student studying Human Development. I love being around kids and am studying to be a Child Life Specialist, where I could get to make a career around playing with kids all day every day!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a Mormon, since both of my parents were members all of my life. However, as I've grown older and moved on to college, I've really had to decide for myself why I am apart of the LDS church like I am- I've thought more about the teachings and doctrine that the church is based off of, and have had a desire to come to know for myself if I really do want to keep believing in this church I am apart of, and why I have the desire to invest my time and energy into it. We all have our own set of very difficult, personal trials in our life. Whether they may result from personal choices or choices out of our control, I- like anyone else- have had my own trials and struggles throughout my life. I remember a particular time in my life where I felt all sense of hope, light, and love vanish from my life. My life felt so empty and dark, and I felt so alone. I struggled with even wanting to pray to God, because I felt like he didn't care about me anymore- he had better people to hear out and help- not me. I was helpless. I was hopeless. I wasn't worth any of his love. So why me? Why did I decide to stay a Mormon? During this intensely dark time, and throughout many, many times since- I can never, ever deny that God pulled me back to light- to safety, peace, and love- with HIS love. Through every little effort I gave him to come back to him- he magnified it and led me more hope, light, and love. The atonement brought me back-- little by little, he pulled me in. EVERYTHING is made possible through the atonement. Jesus Christ wrapped me in His arms- helping me come home to more light, safety, and more love than I ever, ever deserve. God loved me before I came to this Earth, loves me on this Earth- all the time, no matter what- and will love me always. Because He is my God and because He has a specific plan for me and my life, just like He does with each and every single one of us. I love God and follow Him because He first loved us... and that's why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I participate in my YSA (young single adult) ward by accepting various callings from my Bishop and other local leaders, and participating in our area's ward activities. I attend "family night" on Monday nights for a fun planned-out activity, and then also attend "institute" on Wednesday nights when a lot of single adults from a particular area gather to learn more about the scriptures and share our insights with one another in a lesson. I strive to be a better person by volunteering in small and bigger ways, and have truly grown to love doing service. Whether it be to volunteer to help drive a car-less college friend to their doctor's appointment or to volunteer at a food bank, I have grown to love spending my time doing things that help others out in any way I can. It has helped me forget about my own stresses and problems by focusing on helping other people out. I have also come to love to learn more about my family history, and work on a website called "Family Search" to discover who more of my ancestors were and their history.
