Hi I'm Vanessa Hernandez

I'm a California-native world traveler. I am serving in the Alpine German Speaking Mission. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have two older sisters and a little brother with Downs Syndrome. I love music (kpop especially), making music and taking naps. I have never been to college (although all my friends are starting their second year) but I have taught kids English in Ukraine. I enjoy experiencing new things, like traveling or even just a new tv show added to Netflix. I've been to four times as many countries as states (Don't be too impressed, I've only been to three states haha). I received my call to the Alpine German Speaking mission in July and I am happy to be out serving the Lord and bringing people joy through Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into an LDS family. My dad is a convert and my mom is a life time member. I loved and was lucky to have their examples growing up. My dad's example being that he didn't know the gospel but when he found it truly in his heart (it took some time), he grasped onto it and never let go. And my mom's example being that she was born into an LDS family like me, and she has been a strong member her whole life. My younger brother has Downs Syndrome. It is a challenge for our family. But because of doctrines in the church, I know he will be restored fully to his full capacity, I also know he came into this world knowing the limitations he would have. He is one of the biggest blessings of my life. The gospel is so many things to me. It's my anchor and my thing to turn to. I have felt the Savior's love so strongly that there is no way I can deny that He is with me. And that took time and energy to obtain. But it is worth it. I have made many mistakes in my life, many that I am embarrassed about, but I have walked the road of repentance and it was worth every second to feel that warm embrace of forgiveness. I am not perfect but I am Mormon because I'm striving to be perfect like my Father in Heaven is.

How I live my faith

In church, I worked with the three year olds and taught them about Christ and they taught me about patience. I have so much love for my little ones! I try to show people love just as Christ would do when He was on the Earth and just as He still does from above. I try to be a friend to all and let them know that I'm here to hear their problems and so is our Heavenly Father.
