Hi I'm John

I grew up in the state of Alaska. I love to serve others. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is John and I grew up in the state of Alaska. I am a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I was born in Anchorage, Alaska. I spent my younger years living in several rural villages of Alaska: Shageluk and Holy Cross. During these years my family faced many challenges. My biological parents are alcoholics. My three younger sisters and I were put through many trials that made us strong. In 2008, when I was 9 years old, my family moved to the city of Anchorage. There, we lived with my Aunt and her family in a small apartment building. Shortly after moving, my grandma took my sisters and I in because my parents couldn't take care of us. Turns out, my grandma is also an alcoholic and also couldn't take care of us. The Office of Children Services (OCS) later took my sisters and I in May 2009. We were lucky to be able to stay together in our foster care experiences. I made a friend that year who was Mormon. He later turned out to be my best friend throughout the rest of my youth and will be a life long friend. I didn't become a member until 2012. Shortly after I was baptized, my sisters and I were adopted and sealed to Leon and Vickie. They are my parents and I love them. Their teachings and good examples led me to want to serve as a missionary for the LDS church. I was called to serve in the Arizona Scottsdale Mission and report August 30th to the MTC. I love my Savior.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that this church is the truth. When I was in 7th grade, my cousin was able to be my foster parent. My cousin was a member of the church and had a very strong testimony. My first meeting I attended was a fast and testimony meeting. She called me and my sisters by name, and told me that she loves us, and she also said that God loves me. When she said this, the spirit was so very strong. I looked at my sisters and I felt like I was home. This church is the true church on the earth today. Christ loves all of us. We are all children of God and he loves us all. I am so very grateful for the church and for the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost can comfort all of us in times of trial. We are able to receive guidance from the Holy Ghost when we are worthy of it. I am grateful for my parents and my family. I know that I will be with them forever because of Christ. Christ suffered so that we may go back and be with our Heavenly Father. I will always have a special love for what he did for me and my sisters.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by always searching for service opportunities. Christ served the whole world. I try to live and be like Christ is. When we are in the service of our fellow beings, we are in the service of God. That makes me happy. God is happy when we serve him. I grew up in a community where service opportunities were great. I approach every service opportunity with great energy and joy. Being joyful also helps me love and have charity for those around me. Christ showed charity to the world. I am very grateful for what he did for me. I know he loves you and me.
