Hi I'm Cheryl

I am a mom, grandmother, aunt, wife, pianist, Girl Scout, author, business owner, genealogist, storyteller, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have seven children. My first five are biological and my last two are adopted. They were removed from their parents, because of abuse and neglect. I have learned about and dealt with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. I am grateful for family and friends that have rallied to help. It has not always been easy, but I know that my Heavenly Father is always with me. I have had many times were prayers have been answered or I have had situations where I knew I was not alone and that the Holy Ghost was with me guiding me.

Why I am a Mormon

I have a pioneer heritage when it comes to the church. My father's side of the family joined the church in the 1800's. My mother is a convert and she joined when she was 19. I was raised going to church, but I do have my own testimony of the gospel. Because of the gospel, I know who I am, why I am here and what I need to do to for when my time comes to return to my Heavenly Father. My life has not been a bed of roses, but through it all, the gospel has been my foundation. I read the scriptures daily. As a family we try to have family prayer every night. We do Family Home Evening weekly and attend church on a regular basis. All of these factors help keep me strong in the church. Also, attending the temple monthly is a wonderful way to rejuvenate my soul and be prepared to take on whatever life has to dish out. I am grateful for my membership in the church, for my Heavenly Father, his son Jesus Christ and for the Holy Ghost.

How I live my faith

I am the pianist for the Relief Society, which is the women's organization in the church. I'm not great, but I practice during the week and try my best. The sister's are very sweet and do appreciate the time and effort I put into my talent. I am also a Temple and Family History Ward Consultant and I help different people in my ward with their family history. I work with a wonderful sister that is from Peru and I have enjoyed learning more about the culture that she grew up in, how she came to the United States, learned English and became a member of the church. I am a Stake Self-Reliant Facilitator and I run classes that help people learn how to start a business or improve the business they already own. There are also classes on improving one's understanding of finances, how to further one's education and how to get a job, or get a better job. I have enjoyed getting to know the people in my classes and watching them grow and improve their lives. Last, I am a Visiting Teacher and enjoy meeting with the sister's that I am assigned to and helping them whenever they need it, whether it be a meal or a listening ear.
