Hi I'm Hyrum

I'm from Oregon. I share, play, and make music. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I love music. For me, it's something that has always been present in my life; I cannot imagine where I would be or who I would be without it. Because of my family, that's what I grew up surrounded with. With my immersion in music, I have been able to have so many great opportunities and experiences. I learned how to play the viola by being in an orchestra. I have learned how to play the piano by studying the meanings and purpose behind the songs that I love. I've been exposed to many great teachers who have shown me how to be more aware of my sound and how to be a teacher myself. Music has taken me to marvelous places; it has taken me across the country, to competitions that tested my abilities, to people's homes, to great universities and programs abroad, to the stage of a musical theatre production, to a coliseum of people listening to me, to quiet places that provoke times of introspection, to weddings, to all kinds of community events, to monuments of historical importance, and to places I had not even dreamed about. I could safely say that music accompanies me everywhere in my mind; music is not what I do, it is who I am.

Why I am a Mormon

My family, even back several generations, is Mormon; my lineage is that of pioneers and people like me that love the gospel of Jesus Christ. Through His plan of happiness, I am able to look with hope to a time after this life surrounded with my family for eternity. I choose to live my life in a way that enables me to receive the blessings that God has promised to us. Because of Christ's sacrifice and atonement for my sins and the sins of the world, I know that I can live with my Heavenly Father and spirit family. When surrounded by the chaos that is life, I can look up and be reminded of why I am here. The knowledge that I have of the Gospel of Jesus Christ motivates me to improve myself and to help others. It all boils down to love, I would say. I love my family; God loves me even more. In return, I show my love for Him by my obedience to His laws and commandments.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by the things that I do. I accepted the invitation by one of my church leaders to serve as a teacher of a Sunday church class, even though I did not think of myself as a good teacher. I facilitate discussion between my peers. I help with anything related to music when I am able because I know my talents and abilities are put to good use in sharing and supporting others. As a young missionary, I share what I know and love about the Book of Mormon and the Church with my friends and acquaintances. Helping people is one of my most fulfilling opportunities and greatest joys. Whether it's in the community I live in or with my family, I can serve and bless others around me. The things that I do in the Mormon faith are motivated by an inner commitment to try to be a good person and make my Father in Heaven proud.
