Hi I'm Harlan

I grew up in a military family. I'm an organist and a pianist. I'm preparing to serve a mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in the Church. My dad is in the Navy so I've moved nine times in my life. It's a challenge, but I enjoy seeing new places and meeting new people. Moving so often has given me a greater appreciation for travel. It's a goal of mine to go to Europe one day. I am currently a mathematics major in college and anticipate starting my sophomore year after my mission. I love to read and Harry Potter is my absolute favorite series. I enjoy playing Nintendo games and I'm always down for a round of Mario Kart. I have a passion for writing; I've penned several short novels and was on my high school newspaper staff for three years. I learned to play piano at the age of 9 and picked up the organ at age 16. I absolutely love being an organist; it's a challenging instrument but it's so much fun! I love spending time with my family and friends. I'm excited to serve my mission in Canada.

Why I am a Mormon

Being raised in the Church can sometimes be tough as a child. I didn't want to go and sit in classes for three hours every Sunday. Granted, I love singing time in primary, but that was about the only part I liked. It wasn't until I turned 12 and became a part of the youth program. That's when I started to gain my own testimony and started to realize what a joy it is to be a member of this Church. I came to know that the Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. I know that Christ lives and that one day He will return to the Earth in all His glory. I will always strive to live in harmony with His commandments, and I will always strive to be the best person I can be.

How I live my faith

I love to live my faith through music. I have been an organist for the Church for three years now. It is by far and away the best calling ever. To be able to express my testimony through song has been a blessing to my life. I've also spent much time with the youth of the church in several leadership callings. To be able to assist in leading the wonderful youth in my home ward was such a humbling experience. In the months leading up to my mission, I will be serving as a ward missionary; this means I will be spending time with the missionaries to help teach investigators. Essentially, I live my faith by serving others, and what a blessing that is.
