Hi I'm Jessica Shelton

I'm a student at BYU. I'm about to serve a mission in Recife Brazil. I love dancing, singing, and laughing. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Utah county, right at the base of Mt. Timpanogos. I am the middle child of 5 girls; and let me tell you, being in the middle is the best. There's always someone to talk to, laugh with, and get advice from. I recently finished my second semester at BYU, and am now about to leave to serve a full-time mission in Recife Brazil, where I will teach people about Jesus Christ. I love the mountains- camping, hiking, rock climbing, etc. One thing you can almost always find me doing is dancing. I love folk, ballroom, zumba, and theatrical dance. Performing is part of who I am. As well as dancing, I love theater and choir. I've performed in over 15 shows within the past 4 years. Several years ago I took a beginning level ASL class, and completely fell in love with it. I've continued to study and learn about the language and culture, and hope to one day be an ASL interpreter. Above anything else though, I love spending time with my friends and family. Some of my favorite moments have been around the dinner table with my family, laughing for no apparent reason.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because living with the knowledge of the restored gospel on the earth makes me so happy! There is so much peace and joy that comes from having a purpose, and from receiving a greater understanding of God's love. That is why I have chosen to leave my home, my family, my friends, technology, school, and everything else for 18 months, and go to a country I've never been to, speak a language I don't know, and teach people about a church they've never heard of- because it makes me so HAPPY!

How I live my faith

I live my faith in the way I live my life. It's part of who I am, and who I am trying to become. I study from the scriptures daily. I keep a journal, where I can write down and recognize the blessings God has given me in my life. I attend weekly church meetings with other people in my area, where we can go and learn more about God, and to feel his power in our lives. I try to see other people the way a loving God would see them. No one is perfect, but we just have to keep trying to be better every single day. I love God and his son Jesus Christ, and I try to live my life in a way that reflects that love.
