Hi I'm Starli Jo Gates

I grew up in Fruita, Colorado and now Vernal, Utah is my home. I have danced since I was three years old. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have danced since I was three years old. It is my passion and my hobby. Dance allowed me to not have time for a lot of other things, but I love camping, fishing, hunting, the beach, smoothies, chocolate, and all things to do with my family. I recently ended my first year in college and loved every second of it. I love my friends and spending time with them. I love my dogs, drawing, reading, and all things to do with this gospel. I also love my boyfriend who is also serving a mission and am so thankful for all the support we can provide each other at this time in our lives.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member all of my life. My mother and I went every single week from what I can remember growing up and my dad was a member but he was inactive. I loved both of my parents equally but continued to notice the difference between them as my mom went to church and my dad didn't. I've always had a testimony of the gospel and never doubted that it wasn't true, I knew it was and still do to this day. The blessings and miracles that have happened throughout my life are all because of my faith in this gospel and I have seen it change many other lives for the better. When I was eight years old I decided to get baptized because like I said I have always knew this was the true church and I was so eager to become a member. I was very thankful that I got to make my own decision at eight years old and remember my baptism day like it was yesterday. It was one of the best days of my entire life. Then the missionaries came to my house one day and talked with my father. As they progressively came over my father started to respond. He finally after ten years of being inactive, reactivated and has been incredibly strong ever sense. I admire those missionaries and thank them every single day for making my family whole again. All of these life experiences are all thanks to this gospel, I know 110% without a doubt that it is true, and it was restored on this church as the only true and living gospel. I continue to see blessings and guidance from my Heavenly Father each and everyday as I continue to follow with faith. The greatest reason why I continue to follow this faith is because of the atonement. None of us are perfect, but through repentance and forgiveness from our Savior who loved us so much that he gave his life for us, we can be forgiven and continually start over towards our ultimate goal, living with him again. I love this gospel with all my heart and know it is true. I am so thankful for it and all the living prophets that lead and guide us each day.

How I live my faith

I love to volunteer to do as much with my community as I can. While I was dancing in college we did a lot of golf tournaments, and helped with dance competitions for younger children. This was a lot of fun because I got to interact with not only my community but things that I love to do and also help out with younger children that have the same passion. I also have a few callings in church in which I would teach other people of the same age as I a few times a month. I would also hold gatherings every sunday in which I would find a person to pray for others that were in need, and we would socialize and eat yummy food in the meantime, and try to get to know our fellow ward members. I love that I can have callings that help me strengthen and live my faith, as it takes time outside of church to prepare my lessons so that they are effective when I teach them. Also doing things outside of church with ward members is so much fun because we are all like one big family, and I know if I needed anything anyone of them would be there for me and I would be there for them. That is one of the many reasons why this gospel is so special, and so near and dear to my heart.
