Hi I'm Melanie

I grew up in Utah. Sports, family and friends are my life. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Utah, but my parents are both from Japan. I grew up going to a small school and played many sports like basketball, volleyball and running track and field throughout middle and high school. I am currently a college student studying Exercise and Wellness, but I am taking a break to serve a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Japan.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints my whole life. I did not experience a conversion in the sense that missionaries came to my home and taught me, but I became converted as I accepted and decided to receive my own personal witness of the truth of Jesus Christ's teachings. I am a Mormon because I believe in Jesus Christ and choose to follow Him. I continue to follow Christ because His gospel gives me purpose and peace that can be found nowhere else. His gospel teaches us that this life is a time to prepare to meet God and understanding this allows me to focus on the things that matter most in my life. I love this gospel. Being a member of this Church helps me to meet my neighbors and even make connections to people all around the world. It brings happiness and love into my life. I know that when we make the decision to follow Jesus Christ and change whatever we need to in our life to better follow Him, He blesses us and gives us the strength to overcome life's trials and experience the happiness that He wants everyone to have. I know that His blessings are far greater than any amount of work I put in. He is the Savior of the world and knows each of us personally. I know that I am a child of God. I know that Heavenly Father speaks to all His children through the scriptures and the living prophets. He hears our prayers and pleadings. I know that God wants all of His children to experience growth and happiness. He wants us to help us, He wants us to reach out to Him so He can bless us. I don't know all the questions to life, and I know that this gospel cannot answer everything in life right now, but I do know that there is a God that watches His children in love and patience. He knows all the answers to our questions. I know that if we have faith in Him, He will do more for our life than we can possibly do on our own. He is the source of truth and light and I believe these things with all my heart.

How I live my faith

I believe that friendships and having fun builds a community and ward. Growing up I have loved participating in many service projects that my Church sets up for its members to allow people to experience working together and serving those in our neighborhood and community. Many of these activities range from doing yard work for a member's home to creating emergency kits for those in Africa. I love attending activities that wards create because they allow members get to know each other and make connections. These activities allows me to better know the needs of those I meet and lets me know how I can better serve them. I love visiting my neighbors and I especially love it when those around me text me for anything they need, even if it is just to ask if I have some extra butter or salt! Within the Church I have experienced a few different callings that ranged from teaching younger children during Church meetings or organizing events and activities for the youth.
