Hi I'm Shannon

I'm a retired university professor, married 46 years, mother of four, grandmother of 13.

About Me

I have been a school teacher for over 40 years, having taught all grades in junior and senior high school, and college levels. I love teaching young people and learning from them. I have lived in four very different states and have traveled extensively. I love being introduced to a variety of cultures, languages, and perspectives. The humanities (art, literature, music, history) have been central to my education and my understanding of people and the world. I have been blessed with four children and thirteen grandchildren, and a spouse who has loved and supported me daily for 46 years.

Why I am a Mormon

I gained a testimony of Jesus Christ at an early age and have been blessed by my membership in His church. I believe that Joseph Smith was appointed by God to restore His gospel in these latter days, to translate the Book of Mormon, and to start a church in Christ's name, being directed through him by the power of His holy priesthood. My testimony has grown stronger over the years as I have learned to study and ponder holy scriptures, allow myself to be guided and directed by men and women of God, prophets and apostles, bishops, and leaders who have directed my path and inspired me to live the principles of the gospel. I have been blessed by the temple covenants I have made, by being repentant and seeking forgiveness for my transgressions, by trying to follow the commandments and by submitting my will to that of my Savior. Through constant prayer, I have received personal answers to questions about my life, my family, my choices, my struggles. I know that my Father in Heaven loves me as he does all His children, and that He desires us all to return to Him after this life. We have been given an earthly body, allowed to experience family relationships, to use our agency for good and wise purposes, in order to gain the knowledge we need to be like His son, whom He sent to make possible an infinite Atonement on our behalf. My testimony has given me much peace, comfort, and joy. I hope I will daily be grateful for the knowledge I have concerning our Father's plan of happiness for us, that I will daily commune with Him and be directed in all things through the power and gift of the Holy Ghost.

How I live my faith

Though I was raised by non-LDS parents, I was permitted to attend our neighborhood ward where I was taught at a very young age about Jesus Christ and the restoration of His gospel. I have always been an active member, having served in many callings. Presently, I am a visiting teaching coordinator who tries to encourage ward sisters to serve one another through monthly visits to one another. This calling has given me a sure knowledge of how consistent service, one to one, builds love and bonds of lasting friendship.
