Hi I'm Jessica

I grew up in a small town in Utah, am studying elementary education at Brigham Young University, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My family consists of my mom, dad, (me), younger brother, and younger sister. I grew up being very close to family and extended family. Currently, I'm attending Brigham Young University to study elementary education. Teaching is something that I love to do and love that I get to study it and make it my career. Some of my hobbies include skiing and hiking in the beautiful Utah mountains, playing soccer, playing piano, and spending time with friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Mormon household and in an area that was highly populated with people of the same faith. This made it easy to grow up living my faith, but this doesn't mean I haven't questioned my faith or had times when I was less active than others. I have had to study and ponder for myself to choose whether or not I want to live my life as a Mormon or not. As I sought learning "by study and also by faith" (D&C 88:118) by reading the scriptures, praying, taking religion classes, and asking questions, the truths of the gospel rang true to me. I came to understand the doctrine taught by the Church despite experiencing much doubt and unsurety along the way. It was not an easy or short process, but I believe that the difficult process was necessary in order to develop the understanding and appreciation that I have for the Gospel today. I am a Mormon because it makes me happy and helps me realize my purpose. As I look back at my life, I have noticed patterns and discovered that my life has been happier during times in which I was living the Gospel and applying its simple truths into my life. Even during the worst of times, the Gospel still brought me happiness. As I've struggled through mental illness, I found that the Gospel was sometimes the only thing that helped me find peace. I am a Mormon because it helps me understand the bigger questions of life and helps me endure the trials that come with it. I am a Mormon because it helps me be a better person and be kinder to the people around me. I am a Mormon because life is more beautiful with the Gospel in it.

How I live my faith

I am currently preparing to serve a full-time mission in which I will leave my home for 18 months to teach others about the gospel. Besides this preparation, I attend church every week and I have a calling to choose and lead the hymns that the women sing in our meetings. I have loved this calling because I enjoy church music and appreciate the feelings that nothing but music can bring. As a teenager, I helped plan activities for other teens in the church as well as looking out for teens in the ward who are in need.
