Hi I'm McKayla Jensen

Adventurer, writer and music obsessor.

About Me

I'm a college student whose just trying to figure out this whole life thaang. I recently finished my first year of college (go cougs!) and I'm further away to picking a major than I was when I started. I love reading, hiking, watching movies, exploring, traveling, and basically all the other -ings. I'm completely obsessed with writing in my journal and can't go more than a few days without it. Currently jammin' out to lots of Indie Pop and Alessia Cara.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe it's true! There is no simpler way to put it. I believe the sun is yellow, fresh cut grass smells amazing, finding a pair of matching socks is a waste of time, and that God loves me and he really, really loves you too. I dislike when people say that someone would make a "great mormon" because I feel like that sentence doesn't make any sense. In a way, aren't we all Mormon? If this church ish is really true, aren't we all sons and daughters of a true, living God!! That's all that being a Mormon means. It means we love God and are just trying to do what's right in the world. This whole life and Earth thing that we're doing, it's all for a reason. No stress, we're not alone. Earth was created by Him, for us, today. Do you wanna know how I know? I asked!! So dang simple. I prayed to my very own Heavenly Father and I asked Him if this church was true, and guess what?! I got an answer that it is. It wasn't anything dramatic like a lightning bolt or heavenly visitor (that would be freakin awesome) but I could just feel it in my heart. I felt peace. I can testify that God is there. The Book of Mormon is true. I've read it cover to cover multiple times and I believe every word in that book. The current prophet of the church is doing as God's directs and is just trying to help us. Simply put, I am a Mormon because I know it is true. God loves me, and He loves you too.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by centering my life on Jesus Christ. I believe no matter who we are or what we believe, that Christ's teachings can help us become a kinder and more loving human being. To do so, I like to spend my life focusing on other people. Nothing brings me greater happiness than serving people. In my family, I'm the only girl out of four brothers, two of which have lifelong medical problems. My older brother had a stroke when he was only ten years old, resulting in almost complete paralysis of the right side of his body. He's had two brain surgeries, a spinal cord surgery, rod and pins placed in his leg and wrist, and then later removed, plus a variety of other medical struggles caused from all these surgeries. Eleven years later he's still battling these trials through endless therapy and medication. My youngest brother (currently ten), has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. It's a degenerative muscle disease that as he grows older, hinders his ability to move. As of a month ago, he's been in a wheelchair full time, as his mobility and strength continually regresses. It's been a hard adjustment, especially as he's gained weight and it's getting harder and harder to lift him to help him change clothes or use the restroom. However, even with all these hard things, there is hope, joy and peace. My sweet brothers have taught me what love really means. What selflessness really means. I live my faith through them by never giving up. I live my faith by keeping hope, even though my older brother will never be completely healed in this life, and my younger brother will continually lose strength because currently, there is no cure. I live my faith by doing as I believe my Savior, Jesus Christ, has taught me to do, which is to serve. I live my faith by simply living and believing. Life is so far from perfect, but that's okay because we have a savior, Jesus Christ, who is there to help us every single step of the way.
