Hi I'm Swaesy

I grew up in Alaska. I raced sled dogs. I am a Certified Nursing Assistant. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 19 year old just starting to figure out life on my own. I grew up in a small town in Alaska that I loved. There, I had the unique and amazing opportunity to race sled dogs with my amazing family and our 47 dogs. Alaska has ingrained in me an eternal love for the outdoors. I am anxiously waiting to serve a full time mission for the people of Tucson, Arizona in a little over a month and I couldn't be more excited! I have worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at a local nursing home and have grown closer to my Savior through that job and the experiences I have had because of the sweet people I take care of. They have helped me grow so much as a person and as a daughter of God. Because of my residents I plan to get my Bachelors in Nursing Science once I return from my mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I was actually born into the church, so I had its influence all around me my entire life. I wasn't truly converted, though, until I was nearly eight years old. The word baptism started becoming a common word used around me because, at age eight, is when a child may choose to be baptized and can become responsible for their actions. I had a big decision to make. My wonderful parents were in full support of whatever I chose, and really wanted it to be MY decision rather than something strongly suggested to me. This would be the first time I have ever had to rely on my own faith rather than my parents and I quickly realized that my own faith was quite small, as I had never relied on it alone before. I began researching other religions including my own. Finding out the differences and similarities between them. I even attended a couple of services with friends of other religions. I found out so much in this period of time. One day I felt a strong impression to read the Book of Mormon and find out for myself if it was true. Sure enough, I read it with the help of my family and decided it was time to find out for myself. I found a quiet place to have my first ever sincere prayer. As I look back I honestly do not remember a word that was said, but the one thing I do remember, very vividly is what I felt. It is a feeling that is hard to explain and can only be understood if you have felt it yourself. I felt unconditionally loved as if I was precious and important. I felt all of these things in my heart and knew without a doubt that this was my Heavenly Father reaching out to me and pouring His love upon me. I am a Mormon because I know without a doubt that the Book of Mormon is true. I am a Mormon because I know Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God. I am a Mormon because I know that my Heavenly Father loves each and every one of us unconditionally and wants us to live our lives in a way so that we may return to his open embrace one day. THAT, my friends, is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

My faith defines me as a person. It is my way of life. When I describe myself, my faith is one of the first adjectives I use among daughter, sister, etc... It really starts with the little things that eventually become the foundation of my life. Small things like reading my scriptures, always trying to have a prayer in my heart, and serving my callings or roles at church to the best of my ability.
